I have no words for this day.
I had a goal of running 1:22:45 today. I have trained for this, day after day, since basically October. I ran higher mileage than I ever have. I sacrificed my social life & travel. My coach became my best friend. We texted or called each other almost every day. He started to see something in me right around the time I ran 6:10 pace at altitude in my 10K in March. I honestly think that before then, he wasn’t sure. Sure, he saw some talent, and some drive, but he wasn’t 100% sure I had what it takes.
He first mentioned the words “Olympic Trials” after that 10K. Threw it casually into a conversation. I was surprised, as he’s traditionally a very conservative guy. I thought: “wow. He believes in me. He really believes I can do this.”
I know I have a long way to go before I actually achieve that, if I ever will. But today I ran 6:18 pace, at 5280 ft of altitude, in a half marathon. So - I’m ready to share that I’ll be chasing that pace in a full at sea level. My goal race is CIM in December. Now, whether I’ll go for an OTQ that soon is to be determined- I’m thinking I’ll probably wait til 2024. But after achieving PRs at almost every distance this year- at altitude- that I couldn’t reach at sea level several years ago, makes me feel as if anything is possible. I am ready for this.
Thanks to everyone who cheered (my high school kids who came to watch 😭😭😭), who sent texts & dms, who kept me pain-free (@livwellcannabis_ & @theartdoctors ), to my bae who never misses a race (@trav_livin ), to my fabulous training partners who I wouldn’t be half the runner I am without. This has been the MOST FUN past few months. I freaking love this sport!!!

Today was the 4th Race in the Singapore Ocean Race Series for 2019, and I love these races, they’re my litmus test. I wasn’t expecting anything today. I’ve trained 1 week of the last 4, I couldn’t finish a club session this week and I fell sick and slept through a couple of days🤦🏽♀️ Today has been terrible. Luckily I’ve had the best support a girl could ask for through it all and it got me through to get a win. Today I am thankful for my family and friends, and that I could race well. In the meantime my heart goes out to those in my circle ♥️ #grateful#mykaiwaalife#aresoc1#wakaama wakaama #outriggercanoe#paintrain#gaintrain
Didn’t hit all the splits perfectly (scroll for results) but was pretty close. Decreasing rest on the last few. Also did this workout on 14hour carb depletion.
Very tough, but felt okay. Lactic got the better of me the last few reps. .
Every single muscle in my body hurts. My legs feel like there are shards of glass in them when I walk, going up and down stairs is comical, 6 toenails have blisters under them, I wake up at night when I roll over because I’m in pain, yet there is something about the marathon that keeps bringing me back. 💫
I’m still want that sub-3 hour goal as bad as ever, and while I knew it would take a perfect day for it to happen on Sunday, I still gave it everything I had, which is the most I can ask of my body. 💫
A huge shoutout to all the random, nice strangers that have helped me on this trip! I had absolutely ZERO photos of me before, during, or after the race because I didn’t have a phone and couldn’t find my friends at the end, but @bhgross contacted me via Instagram and sent me this photo! 💫

And just like that, I completed my first Ironman. Today was absolute hell. By far the hardest thing I have ever put my body through. Both hamstrings cramped while coming out of the water, both quads cramped on the bike, and could only run a quarter mile at a time before the rest of my body started cramping. My cardio and breathing felt 100%, but my cramping limited me big time. Crazy thing is I can’t wait for the next one. I wanna thank my better half for all the support. @ecurrera@ironmantri#ironman#paintrain
