Happy 2nd anniversary Monty! I still remember seeing you for the first time in the special room with the one way mirror at the Ottawa Humane Society. You had to be in there because it was too stressful to see prospective adoptive parents walking by your window. You had already been adopted and returned because you had broken out of your crate and trashed the house. Although that must have been a very stressful experience I'm glad you were returned because I got you! I had just been discharged from the Royal Ottawa after experiencing my second mania and I was out of sorts. I saw myself in you. You were on meds for anxiety and clearly needed to be loved. I felt so powerless at this point in time but knew I could do something positive by giving you a loving home. The first while was tough as I fell into a deep depression after adopting you but mom and dad took care of you until I was able to be there for you 100%. You have brought so much joy to my life, you are my main man and the best decision I've ever made. Love you with all my ❤

At our house, we love having portraits of our dogs. This is Bailey, a sweet cock-a-poo who was adopted from the Ottawa Humane Society in 1994. Bailey passed away in 2009 at the age of 15. This fabulous portrait is by the super talented Italian-Canadian artist Lorena Ziraldo. Take a look at her work. She has a website. She doesn’t just paint dogs!

One year ago today I was missing my dad on his death anniversary...I went online to check the bunnies on Ottawa SPCA/OHS. Went I saw that hairy angora ball with blue eyes I called them. He was shown at Pet Valu South Keys.Went there after work...the minute I took him in my arms I felt at peace and so connected. I knew he was mine. So this morning I went back to say hi to the amazing staff and they all remembered him. His name back then was Moose (funny bcause I have a thing for moose...) but I renamed him Bulle and it suites him better. All the staff was so happy to hold and kiss him. We all so wish all rabbits could be love like that. #gotchaday#ottawahumanesociety#petvalu#bubbleboy#bulle#adoptdontshop
Instead of getting a new pet from places with inhumane conditions, such as puppy mills, look into adopting from the humane society. (Specifically to those who live in ottawa) Animals are treated well, and the conditions are very good. These animals need a home, if you're up to the challanege, having a special companion can be very beneficial.
SADIE MAE UPDATE: Sadie Mae recently underwent an ultrasound to further investigate some medical concerns our staff have. Please stay tuned in the coming weeks when we will share the results of her tests and update you all on her condition.
In the meantime, Sadie Mae is resting comfortably and enjoying the snow at her loving foster home.
