Meet Mrs. Ellis!
Mrs. Ellis is AOA’s fearless leader serving AOA as our principal. Before that, she taught at AOA as a science teacher for three years. Her goal as principal is to help create an environment where students have the opportunity to have a rich, Christ-centered educational experience. She wants every #AOAstudent to leave AOA knowing they are unique creations from God who can use their gifts to further His kingdom.
Mrs. Ellis and her husband Zach have one son and two dogs. When she’s not teaching, Mrs. Ellis enjoys spending time with family and friends, hiking, traveling, riding roller coasters, cooking, running, and doing Zumba. She also stays involved at her church by serving as the women’s ministry director.
Thank you Mrs. Ellis for being a Christ-like example for our students to follow!
At World Wide Swim School, we follow a building block approach – working with the skills a swimmer may already possess and gradually extending and building on that skill to allow for improvement and new skills to be learned. We help our little swimmers practice and practice and practice. And when we finish practicing, we practice some more!

🎉 ANNOUNCEMENT TIME 🎉
okie doke, ignoring my weird facial expression in this photo, here’s a sneak peek of something big i’ve been working on. design life is often behind the scenes, and there are a bajillion steps that rarely get talked about openly for a variety of reasons. some of which are legit, others which just result in confusion and playing the comparison game without knowing any of the facts when you’re a newbie designer 🤔
fact: i’ve been at this for five years now.
fact: i’ve only gone 100% self-employed in the past 7 months.
fact: i’ve had to learn a lot of this shit the hard and/or long way.
fact: you don’t have to.
this february, i’m taking a break from dyeing classes and focusing on design classes @wolseleywool. so if you’re local, you can join me once again for 4 weeks of shawl design and/or sock design, where i’ll walk you through casting on to binding off your first design. you don’t even have to want to be a designer. in fact, it’s great if you don’t! these classes work for anyone who’s a comfortable knitter who wants to make their own designs, and if you wanna publish them later, cool, i’ll help you walk through that too. but not everyone is in winnipeg, or has time to commit to coming out to a class, so that’s where the creative coven comes in. that’s my online shawl design course, and it’s designed to be worked at your own pace. sometimes we need a little bit of a push, so this february, join me for a 4-week challenge with level one of the creative coven 💕
🖤 have weekly homework and check-ins
🖤 work through all the material in a supportive atmosphere
🖤 have no stress because falling behind is no biggie since you’ll still have forever-access to class material and the private facebook group
🖤 cast on at the start of the month and be supported to bind off by the end of the month
🖤 learn together 🖤
if this sounds like fun, sign up on my website! current students will get to play along if they want to as well. and if you’re unsure if this is the right fit for you right now, dm me and we can chat. i want this experience to be lovely for you, and will be bluntly honest if this system doesn’t sound like a good fit for you 💕

Today’s the LAST day to sign-up for our online course, Spice Rack Medicine! Registration ends at midnight tonight 🖤 We cover not only the medicinal uses of over 20 culinary herbs, but also other kitchen medicine topics including medicinal mushrooms and adaptogens, herbal soups and broths, seaweed, nutritive herbs, medicine-making, herbal ghee, bitters and cordials and so much more! Link in my profile 👆🏽ALSO I thought today I’d feature one of my all-time favorite kitchen herbs, Garden Sage💚💚💚 And I’ve included one of my favorite soup recipes that features Sage too!
Garden Sage (Salvia officinalis) is an herb that’s been worked with since antiquity. Here's a neat tip- when you see the word "officinalis" in a plant's latin name, it means it was "official" to the pharmacopeia aka the list of official medicines in a country. In this case the name officinalis speaks to Sage's long history of use in Europe (and beyond!) where it's a classic medicinal monastery garden herb.
Sage is revered as a longevity tonic, helps darken graying hair, and supports memory and cognitive function. It's no wonder that another meaning of Sage is a wise elder! We can attribute some of these effects to its extremely high antioxidant levels, constituents that are known to decrease inflammation, support cardiovascular function and even protect against cancer! In Crete many villages drink a daily cup of what they call "mountain tea," and one of the ingredients is Sage. Not surprisingly, Crete is known for its high numbers of centenarians!
Another benefit of Sage is its digestive and immune-boosting effects. If you've ever smelled Sage you've surely smelled those rich essential oils that give it its enticing and unique aroma. These oils serve as antimicrobial agents for the plant as a part of its evolutionary strategy to resist pathogens and, amazingly, these essential oils have the same effect on us too! These same essential oils, combined with the somewhat bitter principals of Sage, invigorate digestion, support nutrient absorption, promote a healthy metabolism and elimination, and ease gas and bloating. This is part of why we traditionally cook with Sage!
