Did you know?....
“Research has found a new baby typically results in 400-750 hours of lost sleep for parents in the first year. Notice that there is a big difference between those two numbers? Some babies sleep a lot more and some babies sleep a lot less, but either way, sleep deprivation and motherhood go hand-in-hand. No matter what some sleep ‘experts’ tell you, some babies just do not, and will not, sleep.” - Newborn Mothers
And in general, most babies get their longest stretch of sleep early in the night (typically 8pm - 12pm) and wake more frequently in the morning hours. So how do we cope??
• I always suggest moms sleep that long stretch with babe in the early evening. One hour of sleep before midnight can equate to a restful two hours of sleep!
• if you are not one to nap, take rest breaks throughout the day (preferably screen free and laying down)
• try power napping! “A power nap is a very short nap that ends before deep sleep. 10-15 minutes is enough to reduce irritation and cognitive fatigue without leading to the dull heaviness you feel after a longer nap. The benefits of a power nap last nearly three hours, so schedule yourself a power nap every time your baby sleeps, to get you through the day.”
• expose yourself to sunlight during the day and open your windows for an energy booster
• hire an overnight postpartum Doula who can tend to babies needs. If you’re nursing, your Doula will bring you your babe for feedings in bed and take care of the rest. 🙌🏻
YOU ARE NOT ALONE. How do you cope with sleep deprivation?

Posture is a topic I talk about with most, it not all, of my clients. Correcting our posture can have many benefits! Proper posture can help improve our breathing, circulation and digestion. It helps keep our spine and joints in proper alignment, reduces abnormal wearing on our joints and decreases stress on our ligaments and discs. This allows our muscles to be used more effectively and helps prevent injury.
Proper posture both requires and facilitates our pelvic floor muscles and deep core system. Maintaining good posture is a great core exercise in and of itself! It also decreases pressure on our bladder, bowel and abdomen and can help reduce and/or prevent symptoms. Many people who currently suffer with pain and symptoms experience positive changes when they correct their posture!
Correcting our alignment and posture takes first discovering and then practicing...lots of practicing! However, it’s often the little things that make the difference and lasting change.
My posture is still something I work on daily. Can you point out the differences in my posture in the picture?
It’s a good idea to have an assessment to help correct your posture. And remember, a corrected posture may feel funny or different at first, but it should never cause pain!

Children who cook with their parents are children who are more willing to taste and try new things. When they’ve had a hand in making the meal, kids seem to be more interested in eating it. Encourage your kids to keep an open mind to new tastes and cultures. And if they don’t like it the first time, keep trying!! 📷: @racheljoycek
Happy Christmas Glow Getters. This last 6 months has been an absolute whirlwind of pure JOY! We poured our hearts into this small town business, and the devotion & support you have shown us has been incredibly heart warming.
From a home based business, to a salon studio, jump to Frilly Lilly for a hot minute, and finally settling into our new and permanent home @bliss_okotoks in early 2019, this dream has become exactly what we knew it would be.
There has been sacrifices along the way, an excessive amount of time management, lost time with friends and family, but ultimately, every minute of it has been worth it. Like you, our family has come together to support this dream, and we can’t wait to share it with you in the new year.
Thank you for your support and patronage over the last half year. Nothing fills my heart more then spreading the GLOW. Sending you so much love, happiness, & festive full bellies of food over the next few days. Love local, shop local, support local. From our teeny family to yours, Happy Christmas 🎄🎅🏻 •
Take me back to the beach please ☀️ We’ve never done a tropical family vacation with our kids. This is something I am DYING to book, but I need to know, am I actually going to love it as much as I think I am....orrrr is it better to wait until the boys are older? 🤷🏼♀️
We live in a world where things often look better than they are. Everybody shares the good stuff and we hold back on the bad. Of course you’re going to post that cute little picture of your kids smiling from ear to ear as they eat ice cream by the pool....but how about the dinner time meltdowns or less than ideal hotel sleeps 😆
Don’t get me wrong, I am expecting all that stuff to happen, I’m just wondering if it’s actually all worth it 😁 I like having getaways with just Damon and myself. It’s refreshing and necessary but I definitely miss the boys whenever we’re away, and I dream of being able to take them somewhere with us. Then I think about it and maybe they are too little, maybe it is better to just book a tropical “adults only” vacay instead 🙃
Who has vacationed with kids? Would you recommend it? Where did you go?? Do you live on a schedule while you’re away? Does that help orr does that just create anxiety? Is it better just to smile and go with the flow?? Give me all your favorite tips, tricks, and hacks for travelling with kids, so that I can refer back when the time comes!! I think I’m ready to take the leap!! 🌴 👙 🍹 🐬
I AM EDITING THIS POST TO ADD: we are not looking for a nice relaxing holiday 😅 my hubby likes to anything BUT relax. We want it to be busy, full of activity, swimming, mini golf, excursions, poolside entertainment etc. We aren’t big beach people, and laying around in chairs relaxing is like Damon’s worst holiday ever 😂 However, even when not trying to relax, I still know kids can be exhausting and things like a dinner together vs a dinner with kids is an entirely different experience - buuuutttt....... 🤷🏼♀️

“There's a dance that we do, all the mamas and I,
a dance that's known only to us.
It's a sway to the left and a bounce to the right,
when the baby is starting to fuss.
It's a pace down the hall and a rock in the chair,
a song whispered ever so slow.
We share the same rituals and bedtime routines,
so I think that you already know...
That it really won't matter if you bottle it up
or if milk sprays right out of your chest.
We're all feeding babies with love in our hearts,
while praying for a little more rest.
So pull out your boobies or measure your scoops,
Relax in your comfiest chair.
When you're fed up and flustered or just tired and mad,
look outside and you'll know that we're there.
There's strength in our numbers,
the Moms of The Night...
We're weary, we're hungry, we're up 'till it's light.
We're hardcore, we're shopping, we're living the dream.
We're slipping, we're fading, we're ready to scream.
We're drowning in onesies and burp rags and toys.
We're loving the heck out of our girls and boys.
But mamas get tired and pushed to the brink,
we leave laundry unfolded and dishes in the sink.
So cut us some slack if we still lose our shit,
we're warriors, we're troopers, and we've vowed not to quit.
This feeding thing is hard though we're doing it well.
With nipple shields, pumps, and some lanolin gel.
We use formula, breastmilk, bottles and pads.
We'll do anything possible to nourish our lads.
We're the same in the long run, no fighting allowed.
We're all doing our best, we deserve to feel proud.
I'm off to the trenches but I'll see you real soon,
Remember the mamas all share the same moon.”
