What an absolute privilege! Today teachers were able to visit @uniofqld to watch a tarantula being milked of its venom. Our sincere thanks to Dr Volker Herzig and Professor Glenn King who allowed for the experience to take place. It was certainly something that participants won’t forget. #NYSFOZ2019#BNE#NSTSS
Moreton Bay you did not disappoint! What an amazing experience. Some students in Session B were able to visit the Moreton Bay Research Centre for the day. We think you’ll all sleep very well tonight.
Sun, surf and #STEM!
#STEM visits provide a way for students to apply kinaesthetic learning, a learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities. They certainly were able to do this today at @griffithuniversity in #Health. #NYSFOZ2019#BNE
This morning NYSF CEO Dr Damien Pearce and Session B student Elise were delighted to join @abcbrisbane for a breakfast interview with Terri. They were absolute naturals on the radio! Elise spoke of her passion and love for #STEM, particularly policy around #science! Thank you for hosting us, Terri. #NYSFOZ2019#BNE

So, time for a reflection (+ more photos)! Though NYSF is a sort of ‘science camp’ - and this is certainly true given the lectures and visits and workshops and whatnot - to me, the whole event was essentially a reminder on how to have fun.
Especially during Grade 12 and the HSC and ATAR and whatever Queensland’s on because I don’t live there anymore, when we tend to focus on studies and ranks and getting those marks to get into Uni (or at least where I’m from).
When we forget to simply, and I say this as tactfully as possible, ‘have a life’ in favor of that magically 99.95 ATAR rank.
As such, with the conclusion of this whole event, I realise that the best lesson to take from NYSF is to simply, don’t forget to be awesome.

Truly amazing experience. Truly amazing people. Will always love my science family ❤️ #nysfoz2019
NYSF 2019 is unfortunately over. So grateful for the opportunity to spend the last 10 days with you nerds. Whether it was sleeping in lectures or the science disco. I’m sure that we have all made unforgettable memories of our time feeling breezes in Burgy Bay. #nysfoz2019
Thank you NYSF, for always reminding me to feel the breeze 🌬, peel my bananas left to right 🍌, and always dance to domino by Jessie j 💃🏽. Surprisingly, the best part of nerd camp wasn’t the amazing lab visits and exclusive lectures, but the sense of community that I found within this amazing and insane group of people. Staffie Blake was right; I did find my tribe at Burgy Bay, and I will never be able to express in words the impact that 199 teenagers, 23 staffies and amazing rotarians have had on my life. I love you all, and I’m sure we’ll meet again soon. 💕
1月5日: ‘smoko time yet’ ? the wu crew decided to go as tradies for the nysf disco, and we had prayag as the dog 🐕 feeling a bit sorry for the target employee who overheard us buying him dog leashes 😂💖 #nysfoz2019
