They have the highly sought-after 421-a tax abatement. Murray Hills has an interesting history. It was once a quiet neighborhood named after the successful Quaker merchant Robert Murray who bought this quiet hillside in 1762 and built a spacious home there. Walk up the hilly part of any street between 33rd and 39th and envision the land where the farm approximately stretched out. His wife Mary Lindley Murray was probably looking from her porch on September 15, 1776, when the British landed at Kip’s Bay in their eventual takeover of New York. Just a few days prior, Mrs. Murray had entertained the young commander George Washington.
Truly amazing to have been able to see The Dakota with my client this week. I was in awe through the entire tour! So much history in the walls of this iconic UWS co-op. Built in the 1880s, it was one of New York’s first luxury buildings with the city essentially growing around it. Famous tenants include Yoko Ono and John Lennon (who was infamously shot outside the building), Lauren Bacall, Judy Garland. Rejected applicants include Antonio Banderas, A-Rod, Billy Joel, Cher, and Madonna! We looked at Apt. #15 - a magnificent 7 room, 3 bed/3 bath that makes you feel as if you stepped into the grandeur of Old New York. Check stories for more! 🔅🔅🔅🔅
Currently obsessing over human-rights attorney Alexi Ashe Meyers and her husband, Late Night host @sethmeyers Manhattan redbrick prewar eight-room duplex❣️Designed by @ashe_leandro, the 3,200-square-foot space underwent what they call a “strategic renovation.” The partners managed a gut renovation in only three months while simultaneously working their magic to accentuate the home’s Manhattan aura and building out a design suitable for the growing family. @archdigest article in bio! #earnestlivingnyc#homegoals
