I’M NOT THE SAME RUNNER😌
It’s just been a year & a half. But I feel like I’ve grown SO much in this short time.
❤️I’ve learned how to pace - i.e. not to blow up in the first bit and leave nothing left for the end. Ok, still a work in progress - but I’m getting better.😬
❤️When I ran that mile race, I had only a few weeks earlier started running with people, I had my first 2 workouts with @shambra26.2- such a scary first step to start running with people, but it opened my eyes to how much more beautiful running is with friends.🤗
❤️I’ve realized how crucial mental engagement is to running. When I get the signal now from my brain that I’m hurting, I don’t accept that as an invitation to slow down. I try to push against it & negotiate my way back to where I want to be.
❤️I’ve learned how to relax while running fast and to let speed come out of my legs instead of forcing it.
❤️I’ve learned that positivity every day is the food I need to feed on. There are a million reasons to get sidetracked from my dream & to doubt myself. I’ve realized that my dreams will happen because I will not stop working until they do. It’s inevitable. And with that comes a confidence, a peace, & a patience to let myself find my way there. I’m able to be more excited and passionate about the process- and not look at my journey with dread & fear. <— This makes ALL the difference.
❤️I’ve become a student of the sport. I’ve realized you can make yourself into the athlete that can accomplish your goal. I was more than happy to go ALL IN in every aspect to see the progress I hoped for- form, nutrition, supplementation, sleep, recovery, rolling, strength training. It’s all worth it.
⚡️On Sunday, as I turned the corner for the final 1200 meters of the race on Sunday, my mind was suddenly on this race that was also in Pacific Beach- a race that I was super disappointed with- but that held my mile PR. I dug for something extra to show that race a year and a half ago that I wasn’t that same runner. My last mile was a 6:07- a second faster than that race! Isn’t that amazing!☺️
