I was reminded of this quote yesterday as we undertook our weekly ‘Wild + Free Logan’ nature walk, ‘Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf and take an insect view of its plain.’ - Henry David Thoreau
Yes! Look closely, then more closely still. Nature is full of delightful details and unimagined intricacies. xx
let's talk toy display and storage. We have some open shelving I'm looking to replace and one of the Ikea trofast systems. I love the practicality and tidiness of the trofast, but find my littles use the toys on the open shelving SO much more. Have you tried the trofast? Or do you prefer open shelving?
Sensory play dough 🌿 add lentils, rice or other pantry bits to your play dough! It’s an amazing sensory experience for the kiddos! Bring some nature bits along to use as tools or stamps! Banksia pods work wonderfully for those in Australia! Otherwise, forage for anything that looks fun, and bring it onto the craft table. Hours of fun, I promise!
Sensory meets math •
Love this job it's so simple to set up and it's easy for the child to do on their own. I literally showed billi once what to do and she could sit here all day. I think we need a bigger trey next time and add some other natural materials. •
How great though measuring and pouring they are learning so much coordination and math skills through this play activity. • •
Might explore a bigger trey next week, on a day when it's not raining might just go for a walk and collect some bits and bobs on our bush walk. •
The look on her face is priceless!

Grubby and beautiful just how I like him😍😍😍 was so funny seeing his cousins at Idys birthday running a muck with grubby faces and cheeky smiles! Another pic from yesterday’s outside chills❤️ right now we are on the couch cuddling as it rains outside, Jason always says he wishes we had a tin roof haha he finds the sound of rain therapeutic and so do I but I think I’m happy with the roof we have😆
So smoky out there I feel trapped in the house...it's summer out there! But at least there are no fires near us at the moment. Picture is from yesterday where I went up the mountain and had a white smoky view of our Caley. And Maple heard some deer in the bushes near the cliff so she was being very attentive. This dog doesn't go off leash anywhere she would gone running down the mountain on a blink on eye AND she loves people too much that off leash she wants to kiss everyone on the face which is not always appreciated. For peace of mind she is on a long retractable lead so I can help her control her impulses 😊
This is what some people think when they hear, "we're going on a bush walk". If all you do is walk, putting one leg in front of the other, that does sound pretty boring.... but that's not what we do! Every walk is an adventure to find things we’ve never seen before or maybe to find old friends. We look up and we see nests and birds being silly. We look under and discover bugs recycling leaf litter, some of them with beautiful patterns and colours we never expected to find on a bug! We use binoculars, magnifiers and ID cards to get a closer look and learn more about the natural world all around us. We do not go fast, nor slow. We often stop to climb and sometimes to rest. By doing things differently we see things differently. We chat and ask questions and tell stories. We look closely, make discoveries and end up understanding more about habitats, food webs and how we fit in nature ... every walk is a new adventure! 😀🔎🌳🍄🐛🦆🐞📔🐾 #kidsnatureclub

I love seeing our products in their new homes - it might seem silly but as I pack each order I try to imagine who might be receiving it and how they might play with it and how it may enrich their lives, even just a little. You see, that’s the power of play for me - it’s a bringer of joy, an awakener of imagination and a source of enrichment. When I select toys for the store I am always imagining how they might come alive in the hands of children, how they might unlock a deeper understanding of the world, how they might provide comfort and a safe, inviting space. And then you see pictures like this one, from your customers and you feel like you are just where you’re meant to be and that the hope is still alive for a play revolution in this country - one toy and one family at a time. 🍃
Thank you @the_harmony_tree_house for this lovely picture. Xx

@wildwoodberry have a whole load of kids activities on throughout the summer holidays. Today we headed over for their Wildlife Discovery session and a spot of pond dipping. There was also some storytelling, which as expected Sprog totally ignored, deciding instead to ransack all the boxes destined for the next activity - Nature Crafternoon. Which is a bloody genius name 🙌🏻 After some enthusiastic cutting, glueing and scribbling, poor Sproggles has his heart set on stealing somebody else’s toy buggy, which led to a distraught tantrum which didn’t really end until bedtime 😬
Woodberry Wetlands is beautiful, but I’m not sure I’d recommend it as somewhere to bring toddlers, unless they’re miraculously sleeping, because it is mainly just a path (which you obviously have to stay on) around a massive expanse of water (which you obviously don’t want your toddler to fall into) surrounded by reeds which your toddler can’t see over. .
N A T U R E T A B L E • We've had a beach and flower/butterfly theme on Orla's nature table for a while now as we've been visiting the seaside in the lovely weather and doing our butterfly count. I've moved it on a bit since we've been home from our holiday by adding treasures we found on the beach and adding a leaf theme as Orla's been collecting lots of different types on our walks whilst we've been away 🌊🐟🦀🐋🌿🍁🍃🍂
