Photo by @IngoArndtPhotography / The subspecies of brown bears found along the southern Alaskan coast are the largest of all brown bears. Males can weight over 1.000 pounds. They grow this big because of the rich food in their habitat. Sedge grass, lots of clams and of course salmon. The coastal brown bear in this picture catched a salmon one early morning. Only seconds later another bear was chasing him to get his fish. He ran away with the salmon in his mouth, in full speed exactly in my direction - what a perfect and exciting situation!

Top Shot: Highway to Hail | Photograph by Ryan Wunsch (@ryanwunsch77)
“This photo was taken during a storm chase in the corner of Saskatchewan where I have spent my whole life,” writes #YourShotPhotographer Ryan Wunsch. “The storm was moving very quickly and had just dropped a tornado that hit a farmyard minutes earlier (no one was home, no injuries occurred). Each year I travel 10,000 miles in search of photographic storms but this year my favorite photos came from close to home. My mother joined me on this ‘backyard chase’ and she saw her first tornado ever.” This image was selected for the Daily Dozen on December 11, 2018.
Top Shot features the photo with the most votes from the previous day’s Daily Dozen, 12 photos chosen by the Your Shot editors from thousands of recent uploads. Our community votes for their favorite photo from the selection, and the Top Shot is showcased on the @natgeoyourshot Instagram account.

Honey Harvesting | Photograph by Terra Fondriest (@terrafondriest)
Local beekeepers in the Arkansas Ozarks remove honey from hives scattered around their property. "The Usrey brothers learned beekeeping from their father," says #YourShotPhotographer Terra Fondriest. "He’s kept bees most of their lives, but his health can’t keep up with it anymore, so the boys do the hive work now."
