Countdown to UTMB: 19 Days
I have to admit, I've been in denial about this race all year. I found out on Jan 11th that I had won a lottery spot, but also knew it would be a long shot to make it happen.
As the year progressed, I set my focus on Vol State. Even with UTMB lurking in the shadows, I had to prepare for the 500K. How would my body hold up after 500K? Could I afford to travel to Chamonix for a race after running in TN?
The answer to my body, so far so good! I'm amazed at the recovery, but still taking my training at a much milder pace than I would normally. The answer to affording it, nope. Totally can't afford it. I have been super creative about the finances and received a very generous gift from a group of parents whose kids I coach in the WeROCK program. Things are falling into place.
With that said, ready or not....here it comes. An opportunity of a lifetime! Travel is booked, my bestie Shana is in the wings ready to crew and in 19 days I will be staring up at the French Alps.
I've been fueling my long runs with Spring Energy and it is awesome! Real food, all natural without the sugar spikes you get from sugary gels. If you haven't tried it you should. Use discount code 'Yellowrunner' for a 10% discount. #SpringTribe#MySpringEnergy#NatureUp
My 2018 AC 100 is in the books and what a crazy and unforgettable experience it was finishing 2nd overall in 19:36:54.
I’ve gotten to run many miles over the past 4 years on these trails. Pacing, training and now getting to race this challenging but beautiful course,100.3 miles, from Wrightwood to Alta Dena.
There’s 4 people that had such a huge impact on how my day turned out I can’t express how grateful I am to have had them there. @bmjackson79, @helenchristoni, and my wife, you’re not allowed to sit down, crew chief 😂 @inkedrunnermissy were a runners dream crew. They had me in and out of those aid stations iced up, stocked up on liquids and nutrition, and motivated faster than I’d ever could’ve asked for.
Last but not least @timchristoni who paced me those daunting last 25 miles to the finish. I don’t think those miles have ever gone by faster in the half dozen times we’ve run it together over the years. Thanks again you 4 for making magic out there for me!!
I’d also like to thank @orangemud for their continued support. I used their single and double barrel packs as well as a handheld throughout the race. Also their arm sleeves were a life saver being able to fill them with ice kept me cool through those exposed areas.
@runfar_official for always believing in me and keeping my focus positive with all of the great work they provide through their charity.
@spring_energy for once again making such an outstanding nutrition product. I was taking 1 gel every 45 minutes along with their Electroride mix and never had any stomach issues or energy lows throughout the entire race. It really does work that well guys. Check them out!!
Thank you also to everyone who tracked my race and have left so many great comments and messages. All of them mean so much to me and keep me motivated 👍🏻😀
