Look at the edges and you can see just how thick the slimy membrane covering this cap is!

This is a Parrot Mushroom, and I found out these are in North America, gonna keep my eyes open for some whenever I look now. And they are edible. Although they may be too cute to eat 😋 this is Penny, and she wishes she could fly.
I found these little beauties carefully tucked away in the redwood forest floor. I believe they are called Hygrocybe laetissima or waxy cap mushrooms. I’m learning how to ID these mushrooms so if I am wrong, please let me know. Don’t worry I won’t eat any. Although the other day I accidentally touched the slimy exterior of the parrot mushroom and thought to myself I should have researched more into them and if I die now, at least the people who love me know I died doing something I love. The Butano State Park is absolutely stunning and filled with an incredible ecosystem unique to the Santa Cruz area. #mushrooms#mushroom#mycology#shrooms#forest#santacruzmushrooms#santacruz#insta360onex#insta360#hygrocybelaetissima#magicalworld
I’ve slowly been trying my hand at mushroom/fungi identifications; it’s been humbling and has made me realize how little I know about them. Picked up a reference book or two, and going to hope I don’t die after eating one.
Pretty solid rule of thumb: if you’re not 100% positive on what you’ve got then it’s not worth taking the chance. Don’t ever eat something even if you’re 99% sure. You can eat some mushrooms and not experience side effects for 24 hours... and then you need your blood filtered and a liver transplant to live.
Hello everyone, I will show you one of the most fundamental parts of a freshwater single-celled organisms. It's called contractile vacuole which allows unicellular organisms to expel excess water out of the cell, just like a pump.
Pump it, pump it, pump it! 💦
Single-celled organisms are covered with a membrane and inside this membrane there is a gel-like fluid which contains a lot of dissolved substances, more than the surrounding water contains. Concentration of this dissolved substances inside the cell is different than the surrounding water and they are separated by the cell membrane which only allows certain things to pass through it passively. This imbalance between the concentrations causes water to fill the cell to attain equilibrium.
Which means in freshwater organisms water tries to fill the cells constantly but those simple cells contain this contractile vacuole to fight with the water pressure. If the contractile vacuoles won't work, cells would get swollen until they explode.
This little handy pump accumulates the water which fills the cell and during this time, contractile vacuole swells and later on it discharges the water out of the cell through a pore and the pore closes when the water has been discharged. And it happens again and again, all the time.
Again, pump it, pump it, pump it! 💦
I put a little arrow to show you the contractile vacuole when it swells and discharge the water. I hope you enjoy it. Thank you for reading. ❤️

How I measured and poured the light malt extract agar. 25ml per jar. I did everything one step at a time. Poured all of them, then put on lids. The only thing to be careful with is when the lids are off but the agar is poured. I cut the plastic off the jar boxes so I can drape it over the jars. I have dogs and no one likes hair on their agar #psychedelic#medicine#mycology#mushrooms#magicmushrooms#mushiesbyus#homemade#love
Been so inactive lately.. This year has been filled with life changing experiences, some I’m not quite ready for. But I’m starting too kick this depression in the ass and I feel better then I have in while. Haven’t been mushroom hunting in weeks, but heres some oyster mushrooms from the last time I went. Caught the sunset just in time also.
Sometimes you gotta get your hands dirty 😉😉😉 I can not express my gratitude about getting back into a studio and surrounding myself with artists.
