Yesterday, I posted this pie chart to my Instagram story. I didn’t expect to see it get such a large response.
I can’t speak from a woman’s perspective, so I won’t try to.
However, I can say from my own experience, being an overweight child meant I had very little body positivity.
My heroes were the Power Rangers, WWE Wrestlers and Superheroes. None of them looked like me.
There’s certainly no harm in wanting to improve something, whether it’s upgrading the car we drive, the job we have, or the body we live in.
Whether we admit it or not, we all care about how we look. And all of us want to like what we see when we look in the mirror.
Achieving the ideal body is up to us and is based around how we define it. The qualities behind getting and sustaining a better body are admirable ones. I admire the discipline of bodybuilders and the ironclad work ethic of professional athletes. I am not here to pick a fight with people who desire six-pack abs.
What is important is your prerogative. But my intention is to ask pointed questions and challenge the notion that a certain body type is ideal or better than another. I want you to examine and understand your own prerogative. Because more important than the aesthetic of our bodies is a sense of real health and wellness. Big arms and big butts aren’t necessarily true pictures of what health looks like.
So what is the ideal body type? In the end, it comes down to finding your own best body. What an authentic body is will be different for each of us, but I’m pretty sure it has little to do with a big butt or ripped abs.
Don’t mind my pale skin... but OMG... why did I let myself go so bad? The picture on the left is June of last year, and the right picture is tonight. I’m definitely not where I want to be, but one day at a time I’m slowly but surely reaching goals! Praise Jesus! I have no one but God to thank for helping me remain focussed and steadfast these last few months, and I pray that I keep going, even if I fall off time and time again, slow progress is better than no progress. 🙌🏼😇 #steadfast#INJESUSNAME#thatsallGod#focussed#strong#motivated
Weekends have always meant 1 thing. Well. 2 things. Late nights and good food. And by “good” I mean bad. Bad, bad food. Bad choices and “good” bad food have lead me to be in the situation I am now with my health. The only way to undo the situation is to undo my thinking and undo my habits. I want my health more than I want pizza or chocolate. I feel so much better after starting this journey to fix my body and the damage that my choices have caused. There’s no going back now. I just can’t. Only forward. #Motivated#Weightloss
Arms & Delts Yesterday...
Had to improvise on plate loaded dips. @lewhj wasn’t there to help force me into the seat so used a green resistance band under machine and over shoulders almost choked me out last couple of reps but perfectly stable during set
Rest pause Dips.
Rest pause Supported DB Curls.
I know it can be difficult when it seems like so many things around you are going bad, but I promise when you look for and focus on the positives, they begin to multiply. When you appreciate the good, you bring more good into your life. #YouCanHaveSuccess
