I posted this scripture today because I am dealing with PTSD here in my own city Philadelphia, Pa. We are not safe. How did we become so comfortable? People get out and VOTE! Let's stop OUR government from closing schools. Let's recognize the need to build up OUR communities. Baby Boomers wake up! The weapons of mass DESTRUCTION is in OUR home town. Is it too late? NO MORE GUN VIOLENCE!!!🙏🤝 GOD HAVE MERCY!!! #americaneedsGOD#americaneedspeace#mothersincharge#saveourchildren#gunviolence

#gunviolence#summit sponsored by the @naacp#Media PA chapter .
A call to our #governorwolf to make Gun violence a public health emergency! It is a #nationalepidemic and we are not protecting our #children💔
I volunteered as a member of the #naacp planning to just set up and leave assuming I knew all of the statistics and numb to the politician's promises. Boy was I wrong! The panelists were passionate and the food was good. This was a powerful and extremely informative summit and I was thrilled to see the place filled with community activists, youth and politicians.
Demand that your local and state officials vote to pass PA HB2060 to take firearms away from domestic violence offenders within 48 hours instead of 60 days. You could save a life.
Even if you don't have violence in your town, you are paying the price to care for victims of gun violence and offenders. We need our #churches to get on board and fight for better #gunlaws in Pennsylvania.
Had a great time kicking it with the youth at Carson Valley, speaking some #RealTalk to them about the importance of violence prevention and making better life choices.
Also got to hear this young man @recohavocayo ‘s amazing story overcoming adversity of losing his parents, persevering through youth homes and prisons, to signing his record deal a year later and the kids LOVED him! Shoutout to @montbrown@kwizzy__ & #MothersInCharge for putting it together! #PositivityWINS#Philly 💪🏽💪🏽🙏🏽

De-Bug spent the week with our family in Philadelphia -- working with them as they built participatory defense to keep people out of prison. One of our main partners out there is Mothers in Charge, an incredible organization of mainly parents who have lost children to violence, as well as formerly incarcerated community members who find support and love as they restart their lives. It is a place of spirit, love, and perseverance.
Photo 1: This is Ms. Dorothy - the founder and inspiring head Mother in Charge! She sits with the picture of her son Khaaliq, who was killed in 2001. After losing her son, she went on to create Mothers in Charge in 2003 for other families to have support through the tragedy and trauma.
Photo 2: This is Steve, one of their core participatory defense organizers, about to start their meeting. This amazing brother did over 40 years in prison, and is now leading participatory defense meetings in Philly to prevent others to going to the system. He has an incredibly humble and generous spirit.
Photo 3: This is their weekly participatory defense meetings. As you can see, the room is filled with families and individuals who are supporting each other in the name of freedom.
Photo 4: This is our sister Taz, from the National Council of Incarcerated and Formerly Incarcerated Women and Girls, who joined us from the New York participatory defense hub. She is working with a young woman on her case -- showing her what to expect from an attorney, and how to prepare the best defense possible.
Salute to our Philly Family!!! #protectyourpeople#mothersincharge#participatorydefense#calitophilly
This was what I got from Philly this past weekend.. Got to meet an org called #mothersincharge (which has an amazing story of how they started, and what their mission statement is), flown a Drone around philly in my pf flyers (ask @fullnamecola about that), met the artist @_imc__ who tossed me some game about the city views, which lead me to this location where hammocks are.. Overall, #philly is a stop I will be making again real soon...
Today Lisa Burhannan @beyoundwhatuc talks about what makes her hopeful. Lisa is helping the voices affected by gun violence be heard. She is the local chapter leader (in Harrisburg, PA) with the nationwide organization, Mothers in Charge. Mothers in Charge, Inc. @mothersincharge_phil is an organization that focuses on violence prevention, education and advocating for youth, families and communities affected by violence. Lisa got involved with Mothers in Charge after losing her son to gun violence. She not only helps other families that have lost a loved one, but she also is helping to take back her community by standing up for peace and justice. Please read more about what Mothers in Charge is doing locally and nationwide, link in bio!
As a black woman, what makes you hopeful?
“What makes me hopeful is the love, strength, integrity, leadership and perseverance of my mother and grandmother. Watching their struggles to make a better life for their family. To whom today they are victorious, survivors and more than conquerors; true legends in our eyes. As well as my Lord God Almighty is what makes me hopeful.”
