Hello everyone, Chan here from @urbanyeg. This past week, the topic of mental health has come up more than a few times. If you haven’t already listened to our podcast, I highly encourage you to do that as we do talk about mental health and how being a part of this community can help with that.
There is a part in it which I talk about what happens when you have a support system and when you don’t. One of the fundamentals we always talk about is self betterment through self development. If you do this, you can gain self confidence, which can then spread through other parts of your life. So rather than focusing on trying to improve your photography skills, focus on improving yourself first and it will naturally help you other parts of your life, including improving your photography skills. If you do it the other way around, you’ll just end up improving your photography skills but what good are photography skills if you lack self confidence?
It would certainly help if you did have a support system to help you through this process while you are trying to improve yourself. That’s where we come in. By being involved in this community, you can make some new friends and connections so that you aren’t doing it alone. @jeffreypaulkelly talks in the podcast about the benefits and the journey he went through by involved in @urbanyeg. You should really listen to that!
What happens when you do have a support system and work on improving yourself? You improve your self esteem, you gain self confidence, you use that confidence to develop your photography skills, your photography can be a platform or outlet to develop or explore your talents, developing your talents can lead to a sense of purpose, having a sense of purpose leads to positive mental health.
When you’re at a place that your confidence is there and a negative comment comes your way about your work, it’s easier to let it go and say “thanks for your comment, bro” and just move on. But not everyone is at that place so that’s why having a support system is so important. That’s why we’re here.
Please listen to the podcast! It’s on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google and more!

This is called a 22° Halo, Winter Halo or a Moon Ring. It is formed by the refraction of sun or moon light in millions of hexagonal ice crystals diffused in the athmosphere. I saw something like this for the first time. Luckily I had my camera to take a picture of it :)
