‘House at Dusk’
Oil on Canvas
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
Edward Hopper’s evocative pictures of modern America have a haunting appeal, so firmly are they embedded in the cultural imagination. House at Dusk, imbued with the artist’s defining themes of temporality and ambiguity, is one of the strongest and most lyrical oils of his mature career. The scene is set at the “exquisite hour” of dusk, that most transitional time of day. As in many of his works, Hopper introduces a suspenseful narrative element with the figure of a woman silhouetted by artificial light, seemingly unaware of the subtle afterglow taking place behind her apartment house.
I see more custom wallpaper in the future for this home. This master closet wall plays with the colors throughout the bedroom suite AND features pieces of the quartzite slab we used for his wall shower. 💘🖤💘 Thank you @ejvozzola for composing! #projectxxxrayopal

“Yay! So happy to have sold ‘Only One’ yesterday at Skylark Gallery in the Oxo Tower & to know that it’s now winging its way to its new home in Norfolk...”
Regarding the interiors, Palladio himself, in his Four Books of Architecture, indicates the names of the artists involved in the interior decoration of the Villa Godi Malinverni: Gualtiero Padovano, Battista Del Moro e Battista Zelotti. Villa Godi Malinverni inside houses two pictorial schools, clearly different from each other for themes treated and for the use of colors.
In the left wing and in the central hall, you can visit the classical school, with Battista del Moro and Battista Zelotti. The colors of the frescoes are faint, not only because they have not undergone renovations, except in very small areas but because the school taught the use of the ancient rose, of the azure sapphire and of the ocher yellow.
In the right wing of the villa, instead, you can visit the mystic school, with Gualtiero Padovano. The colors of the rooms are much more gaudy, this not only for the restoration carried out after the First World War, but above all because the artist had already used an acid green and a more energetic yellow.
Gualtiero Padovano remembers himself for being a great landscape painter; through its frescoes it is possible to reconstruct the Venetian and Vicentine landscapes and to recognize a trace of the life of the villages.
In the rooms of Giovanni Battista Zelotti you can rediscover the main epic characters.
In addition to preserving these frescoes, Villa Godi Malinverni exhibits a work by Pietro Annigoni, one of the most important Italian portrait painters of the twentieth century: La strega. 🖼 🧙♀️✨ #Vicenza#VillaGodiMalinverni#AndreaPalladio
