MANGA REVIEWS ( #24) - IMAWA NO KUNI NO ALICE
No of volumes:- 18
No of chapters:- 64
Genres:- Mystery, Horror, Psychological, Game, Supernatural, Shounen, Thriller
A manga where you can only survive by surviving through some deadly games!
That sounds very simple. But boy is this manga much more than that.
I would describe Imawa no Kuni no Alice as a 'powerful' manga.
The survival games were really intense, complex and had various twists with mainly the characters themselves as they try to survive the games as well as each other.
I could feel the raw emotion and grit that the author was trying to put on display with all these various kinds of matches.
But more than the interesting games, the manga does a fantastic job in questioning humanity and morality in the modern times.
It showcased how truly evil the world can be at times and what lengths people will take to acquire what the desire.
My only issues were with the ending, since it did feel like a copout compared to what it could have been. Plus it did leave a few things unexplained.
But that does not affect the amount of positives that the story has to offer.
If you love survival stuff like Btooom! mixed with the psychology stuff like Kaiji, this manga should be a treat.
Ryouhei was a very sympathetic and human character that's really balanced with strengths like his brilliance at times, as well as weaknesses like his lack of composure and his insecurities.
He was a character who I couldn't help but root for as he tries to survive each game.
Uesugi was also nice.
Each character has a backstory and have fucked up reasons for ending up at the Borderlands, and most of them do come off as interesting or sick. So the writing really helped the characters shine.
The art looked stunning and those raw emotions were amazingly portrayed.
The variety of settings definitely helped the art truly come to life.
Really intriguing and fun manga. Wished it had a better ending to push that enjoyment to a 10.
This manga was great!
Dr. Stone continues to impress with volume 3! Going back and reading through these volumes has been an amazing experience. Getting to see the artwork in full detail on a page is great and reliving the story again is a wild ride. My favorite part still being the implementation of science and how intelligent the protagonist and antagonist are in this game of survival and reshaping the world. If you haven't gotten on this yet you're definitely missing out.
Hope everyone is having a good week! Halfway done with it 👍🏼

☀our summer holiday, de kaori ozaki.
