⠀It’s all wrong.
⠀By rights we shouldn’t even be here.
⠀But we are.
⠀It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo.
⠀The ones that really mattered.
⠀Full of darkness and danger they were, and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end.
⠀Because how could the end be happy.
⠀How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened.
⠀But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
⠀Even darkness must pass.
⠀A new day will come.
⠀And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
⠀Those were the stories that stayed with you.
⠀That meant something.
⠀Even if you were too small to understand why.
⠀But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand.
⠀I know now.
⠀Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.
⠀What are we holding on to, Sam?
⠀That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.❞

Today is National Tolkien Reading Day. I didn’t know this day existed until I started writing in my calendar for this week. 🐲
I didn’t read Tolkien until I was in college. It was when the first movie was released. My husband, who was just my boyfriend at the time, took me on a date to see the movie. I didn’t know much about it other than the previews. 🧝🏻♂️
After the movie, I had very mixed feelings. I didn’t know it ended in a very ‘to be continued’ way, and I just wasn’t sure I liked it. So I told my husband that I just needed to go read the books before I could say whether I liked the movie or not. 🧝🏻♀️
So I went out, bought all the books, read them, loved them, and then went to see the movie again. This time, I understood it so much better and LOVED it. It is now one of my all-time favorites! 🐲
🧝🏻♂️What is your Tolkien experience?🧝🏻♀️ #books#bookstagram#reader#read#ya#lordoftherings#tolkien#hobbits#hobbit#lotr
On the 25th March every year people around the world come together to celebrate the destruction of the One Ring and all of JRR Tolkien’s great works.
I bought these Second Edition copies of The Lord of the Rings a few years ago from an antique shop and inside were these letters. They were written in the 1960s when these books were new and I think they sum up the importance of Tolkien Reading day beautifully. Despite these books being over 50 years old I’m now living the same adventure as the original owner did all those years ago and I’m sure they will continue for another 50 more!
I’ve seen the movies, but I’ve only read Fellowship of the Ring and I felt pretty meh about it. Of course, this was back when I was in 7th grade. One day, I’ll give it another try, maybe a different format like audiobooks, but there are so many other books that I don’t know the story and sound more interesting to me right now.
#thetolkiensociety encourages fans to read their favorite passage - points for those who know why the date March 25th was selected?! Stop by #eastbranch this week for some #precious#lotr / #hobbit activity pages, while they last!
Visit #yourlocallibrary anytime to check out a book - by Tolkien, or Tolstoy, or Pilkey, or Pennypacker - we'd just like to see ya!
On the first of may 2016 I posted this Balrog, almost 3 years ago. I learned a lot about building and I've always been able to show my creations here in this positive community. Thank you guys so much for 1000 followers. To celebrate I'll be remaking this Balrog, which I'll post in a few days. Stay tuned till then.
