Teresa Bentley | London Market Group | Head of Talent & Diversity Programmes | MBA Technology Management [merit] & MSc Forensic Psychology @theopenuniversity | I launched the London Insurance Life (@LIL) talent attraction campaign - the social media aspect of which you’re reading now!
“I originally started my career in the claims department at RSA in Halifax, close to where I grew up. Technology was starting to take off and I began working on and managing technology and business improvement projects. I like varied work, I’m highly analytical, creative and organised and I have a long standing interest in technology, so this was a perfect career move for me. Since that time I’ve directed a diverse host of programmes and projects, including organisation restructures, designing and implementing technology and setting up a new insurance company in India.
For almost ten years I have been an independent change leadership professional, working primarily with the London insurance market. Most recently I have been heading up Talent & Diversity Programmes at the London Market Group (LMG) and my work has included creating London Insurance Life (@LIL) - a collaborative talent attraction campaign which consists of social media, careers events and volunteer Ambassadors who act as relatable role models for those considering their career options. The London specialist insurance market offers a wealth of interesting and rewarding career opportunities to ambitious people, and my aim was to raise the profile of careers here to attract new and diverse talent in an interesting and engaging way. I’m immensely proud that @LIL has been such a success - many young people have gained roles through @LIL and this success has been recognised by six industry awards.
Today is my last day of heading up Talent at the LMG. I would like to thank everyone who has made this campaign possible and wish lots of luck to those of you who are looking to find an entry level opportunity through this page.”

As we continue our search for Miller’s 2019 Apprentices, yesterday we supported @londoninsurancelife (LIL) by hosting one of their Insight Days at Miller HQ in London.
With over 30 prospective candidates joining us, the afternoon was packed with practical insights into our industry, including live role play on how the London market would go about insuring the Love Island TV show and a competitive round of @discoverrisk hosted by our LIL ambassador Abby Cronin.
A ‘how to network’ skills session was then followed by speed networking with Abby, fellow LIL ambassador Abigail Coates, and our 2018 apprentices Daniel Bate, Isobel Tremble and Rosie Duller.
Thanks to @thebrokeragelondon who shared details of their great programmes and #LondonInsuranceLife for their awesome event organisation and for giving us the opportunity to get involved!

We also played @discoverrisk which is a financial planning game and there were lots of interesting conversations happening across the afternoon. I studied History at the University of Warwick, specializing in modern African History, and graduated last year.
Having previously only worked in #pharmaceuticals and #retail , I first found out about the opportunities in insurance almost by accident. It came about through chatting to a family friend who, although he did not work in insurance at all, told me all about #underwriting and why the London Insurance Market was the most exciting industry to be in. Off the back of this, I did my own research and reached out to underwriters for more information, which led me to apply to the Lloyd’s graduate scheme.
I joined the scheme last October and I am just completing my first placement in Lloyd’s Treasury and Investment Management, specifically the Ratings and Investor Relations team. This role has involved shaping interaction with rating agencies and the investor community, alongside assisting preparation for the annual rating reviews and release of Lloyd’s annual results.
As part of the graduate scheme I am also working towards my ACII professional qualification.
Victoria Sutton| Associate Director at Aston Lark | Studied history at UEA| I have just started helping at #BeaverScouts and I get called #Rainbow and when I help at Rainbow #Guides I am called #Sparkle .
I love the #market as although it has #traditions it isn’t afraid to #evolve . I chose to work in the insurance industry because I like to help people. In my current role I help by dealing with claims and now more so employees. .
I started working in the #London Market as a household claims handler and then worked my way up at an #insurer (@Hiscoxinsurance), specialising in commercial for a while before entering management and becoming a #broker . #Hiscox introduced me to the market even though I worked on the retail side, but it is only really in the last 3 years that I have worked more closely with Lloyd’s as a @lloydsoflondon broker and have built up relationships with various syndicates to ensure the best claims service for my #clients .
As an Associate Director at Aston Lark I oversee the operations for our Claims Division, #relationshipmanagement , #operationalmanagement and process reviews – I am also involved in our #growth strategy. What I #love about my job is the variety. When I was in claims, it was clear no claim was the same and now that I’m out and about more I am lucky enough to meet new people and get to do some exciting things all in the name of #broking .
I aspire to be a Chief Operations Officer and outside my day to day job I mentor for the Next Generation Insurance Network @ NGINLDN. @Hiscoxuk@lmglondon @LMGLondon#LondonInsuranceLife@Astonlark
A fabulous evening with many of our #LondonInsuranceLife ambassadors celebrating what we have achieved our the last two years. We are amazed by the energy and enthusiasm that each ambassador brings to the campaign. Thank you for volunteering your time! @londonlmg

Yesterday our amazing ambassadors Reha Begum and Zoe Beasley took part in a University of Queen Mary Professional Women's Roundtable.
In this roundtable our ambassadors shared their career journeys, helped #students build their professional networks and also talked about how Imposter Syndrome, can play a part in some of our students’ decision making.
Strides have been made in improving #genderequality in many companies, but some female workers are still paid significantly less than their male counterparts, and women continue to be underrepresented in senior management roles. Graduate applications from female candidates is on the rise, but there is still work to do in inspiring young women to apply for certain roles and industries.
This was a roundtable discussion where ‘Imposter Syndrome’ and @gianinaharvey#QueenMayUniversity ‘ #LondonInsuranceLife@officialqmul@qmuleeconsoc@wcnglobal@firstname.lastname@example.org #ImposterSyndrome @londonlmg

After finishing my final year in school, I began to study #Banking and #Finance at university, however during my first year and following an inspiring talk from Caspar Bartington @CasparAPM I decided to begin to look for avenues to enter the London Insurance Market. At the end of my initial year I was fortunate enough to be offered a place on the Willis Towers Watson @WillisTowersWatson#apprenticeship scheme and I haven’t looked back since. I started at Willis Towers Watson as a Commercial #Analyst with a primary focus on Sales in the #Aerospace and #Marine fields. Day to day I work with both businesses to drive growth and ensure client focus. Recently I have been spending more time with the Aerospace business to develop my technical knowledge, which is already helping me to decide the long term career path I would like to follow. I am very thankful to @WillsTowersWatson for offering me this unique opportunity. I am a delegate of the group #DXCDigitalMinds which supports innovation and the integration of technology into the London Market. Not only has this group broadened my market network but it has provided the opportunity to have first-hand exposure to emerging sectors of the London Market.

Happy 2nd Birthday to #LondonInsuranceLife
It is two years since the LMG launched the London Insurance Life (@LIL) talent attraction campaign - and what an amazing two years it has been.
The @LIL campaign targets young people considering their career options through social media and events where they can meet our volunteer @LIL Ambassadors - young professionals who already work in the London specialist insurance market and promote our social media campaign. There are now 130 @LIL Ambassadors, who are at the heart of the success of the campaign.
In the last two years we have covered 100 careers events - and spoken to thousands of students about the interesting and rewarding careers offered by the London insurance market. This includes 20 events hosted by the LMG in conjunction with market firms, where we invited students and those providing careers advice to inspiring experiences in the City.
. @LIL now has 4,000 social media followers, who learn about the London market through stories posted by people who already work there. There have also been a number of successful applicants for entry level opportunities promoted by London market firms on the @LIL social media pages.
We are also delighted that during 2018 the @LIL campaign has been recognised by 3 key industry awards!

Darcy wright | #Insurance Graduate in the Risk Management Team of @LloydsofLondon | Studied: #History and Classics at Exeter University @uniofexeter| I’m interested in pursuing a career in either alternative risk/emerging risk, or potentially something more #legal in relation to insurance.
I first found out about the insurance world through my father, who is a Farms and Estates broker in #Gloucestershire , who always had interesting stories, and this is what introduced me to the insurance world
I studied History and Classics at the University of Exeter between 2015 and 2018. During the summer of 2017 I spent some time with @AXA Art (HNW underwriters) and Hallett independent (fine art brokers) and with Hiscox’s #fineart box in Lloyd’s. This opened my eyes to the different levels of insurance and the day-to-day working of London market insurance.
I then found out about how incredible the market truly is through AXA art, who then referred me to @hiscoxinsurance, and that is where I discovered the world of Lloyd’s. From them, I learnt about the Lloyd’s #graduatescheme , and this is where I looked first when applying for #jobs in the market. I chose the insurance industry because it is one which is quietly always on top of emerging situations which affect people on a day-to-day basis, such as drones and #cyber developments.
I have also spent some time in #SouthAfrica working for pro bono human rights lawyers and have always had a keen interest in the law. Therefore, if I do not pursue a career directly in either underwriting or broking, I would be very keen to follow a path that combines insurance and law.
As I have only been on the graduate scheme for 3 months, and my first placement has been in the Corporation, Currently I am in the Enterprise Risk Team within Risk management. This involves supporting the business with Risk control assessments, risk appetite metrics and packs and ORSA planning. I also work with the #Financial Risk team for some of this.
I wrote a blog which will be published on the Lloyd’s intranet about #Bitcoin and the risks associated with it and what Lloyd’s can do to help mitigate these risks. #probono@LMGlondon#LondonInsuranceLife

Benji Marfo | Graduate at Lloyd’s of London | Studied at Loughborough University | Interesting Fact: Rugby player for Rosslyn Park RFC
My insurance career started with a one-year placement at @Allianz UK, and part of my sandwich degree at Loughborough University @lborouniversity. At Allianz I was rotated around the #UK commercial broking team, innovation team and #IT project management team.
After graduating from university in July 2017, I wanted to find a full-time role within the London insurance market. After completing summer work experience placement at Group, I was lucky enough to land a spot on the @LloydsofLondon Lloyd’s graduate scheme.
My first six-month placement (of four) was at Bowring Marsh – the wholesale broking arm of Marsh – where I worked as a broker in the International #Property and Terrorism teams.
My second placement on the graduate scheme was within the Corporation of Lloyd’s, working within Treasury and Investment management, and more specifically, the Ratings and Investor Relations team. This role gave me a great exposure to a less visible role within the insurance market, which focussed more upon the investment strategy of Lloyd’s and the management of syndicates investors (both private names and commercial clients). This role also emphasised the strong relationship which Lloyd’s and its rating agencies hold ensuring the financial security of the Lloyd’s market.
I am currently based at the broker BMS Group @bmsgroupyvr, working with the Global Reinsurance team. BMS Group is a medium-sized broker with an entrepreneurial and driven workforce. In 2018 BMS won the @theinsuranceinsider ‘Broker of the Year’ award and has so far been a great platform for my learning and development across a number of lines of business.
I am also working towards my #ACII qualification on the graduate scheme, which is funded by Lloyd’s, and have currently completed my Diploma in Insurance. Alongside this this, I am completing the apprenticeship standard in order to obtain the ‘Level 6 Senior Insurance Professional’ award. @benjimarfo@LMGLondon#LondonInsuranceLife
