Cotton Swab Snowflakes ❄️ ages 3+ ❄️ To make these beautiful snowflakes all you need are some cotton swabs, glue and paper. We broke some of the swabs in half to allow for more detail on the snowflakes. I encouraged Dylan to make the snowflakes symmetrical which gave the project a STEAM spin. To finish, he used a dab marker to add some additional details. So beautiful! ❄️ Follow us @raisingdragons4 for more fun, kids activities! #preschool#kindergarten#prek
At @durhamuniversity’s Celebrate Science 2018 event, artist and ESERO-UK space ambassador Helen Schell held a #STEAM workshop, titled “How far can we see,” about the James Webb Space Telescope. Families learned about the science & tech of #Webb and then children made their own version of the telescope from recycled plastics and cardboard. They chose what they wanted to look at across the Universe! About 500 people did the workshop in 3 days. Here are some photos (used with parental permission) of the event! #JWSTArt#STEM#JWST#spaceart

When your kid puts toilet paper down the bathroom sink ("just to see what happens") and cloggs it.. you have two choices (really three if you count crying or screaming lol)... Put him in the corner or make him learn about how to unclog a drain. After he stood in the corner, he watched as we solved this problem and then we read about it in his plumbing book.
He actually picked out this plumbing book a year ago at @barnesandnoble in the bargain area... And he's made me read it to him a few times and has referenced it to show me what kind of pipes he wants or how something works
Never miss San opportunity to teach..., learn from mistakes, find out how things work. Knowledge is power and the ability to see your way out of a problem is an extremely valuable lesson.

It’s a lot of work getting the Nanogirl Live! tour around New Zealand. Luckily this year thanks to some friends who also believe in improving diversity in science and engineering we had some amazing help. The @nzdefenceforce and @airnz helped us with our mission by loading and transporting our equipment onto a RNZAF Royal New Zealand Air Force Boeing 757 aircraft so that we can get to the South Island quicker and start our tour this weekend at the Isaac Theatre Royal in Christchurch!
Just a few fond memories of @makeredinitiative ‘s meetup in the 412 @pghkids. Old and new friends, old and new spaces, old and new opportunities for our extended Maker community. Thanks BLDG 61 home team for supporting and creating so much growth in 2018.

Tonight's discussion revolves around AI and the future of education. 2 topics that I enjoy analyzing a lot. As a student, I can't help but think of our future. We can't deny the fact that AI is transforming our society in all aspects.
Examples of the following questions were brought up during the meeting : How can we evolve evaluation mechanisms to move towards EQ, Empathy? How can students better integrate widely available material with classroom discourse? What are some ways to get students to truly embody an always learning mindset?
We gathered such a variety of responses. Many in the room were in STEM, but it was great to see it being open to all backgrounds. I've always wanted to navigate my way through AI despite it studies being very limited to a specific group of interest.
For me, AI isn't just blossoming in terms of popularity in stem fields, it will eventually be in social science. That's just so fascinating. The collaboration of both worlds will be much needed to further study its evolution, but then again that is just my mind speaking. If any of you are interested in joining such discussions or events let me know. 💻💡
Check out that cool augmented reality sandbox at @ucsbgeog ! When you move around the sand, the contour lines change to reflect the updated landscape...and when you wiggle your fingers above the sandbox, rain falls out of the sky to fill the lakes and rivers that you created with your hands. #augmentedrealitysandbox#geography#gis#science#STEM#latergram

I’ve had 496 pieces of online, tv and radio coverage on my recent #raisingdigitalnatives campaign. What's it all about? I worked with one family who was having a lot of problems with technology stress in their home. They were arguing a lot about technology, the parents didn't know the best ways to deal with or stop the arguments. The kids were angry and frustrated. I listened to their issues, analysed why they were occurring, and developed a series of change strategies. These strategies were do-able, could easily be incorporated with their teens and young kids. And they worked with busy family life. Cameras in the home captured their transition. The strategies worked amazingly well and the campaign has been a massive success! I'm really proud of this work. Its part of my collaboration with #NortonAU#technology#parenting#education#innovation#health#socialmedia#learning#stem#research
