Today we are talking about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr and his famous “I Have a Dream” speech. Students were highly engaged and actually fitting this speech into Texas history. •
Taking time to just talk about MLK and current events that are related is something that I couldn’t just skip. Even though MLK was yesterday, having the time to just review why he is important inspired my students to keep spreading his message. #texasteachers#mlk#ihaveadream#teachersofinstagram#teachingmiddles#texashistory#lessonplans
UCLA Center X Prepares & Supports Social Justice Educators For A Greater Los Angeles🌹@uclacenterx
Center X Prepares & Supports Educators
Center X provides a unique setting where researchers and practitioners collaborate to design and conduct programs that prepare and support K-12 teachers and administrators committed to social justice, instructional excellence, the integration of research and practice, and caring in urban schools. Center X’s work extends across two graduate credential programs and professional development initiatives. We are a community of educators working to transform public schooling to create a more just, equitable, and humane society.
Center X Roots: brief history of Center X and its work to transform public schooling
Our center is called Center X to capture both the intersection of research and practice as well as our roots as an activist community. First conceived in 1992 as a result of the upheaval and self-examination stemming from Los Angeles’ Rodney King verdict uprisings, Center X strives to challenge the status quo that perpetuates inequity and poor educational practice.
As a community, we are working to enact our ideals- “making the rhetoric real,” as the center’s founder Jeannie Oakes framed our effort in 1996. We believe that transformative work must tackle head on the deep social inequalities manifest in schools as gaps in educational opportunities and achievement. We do not believe that these gaps or inequities will be solved by schools alone, yet we remain committed to public schooling as one of the best democratic spaces for working to become a better, more just society. Students combined photography and digital storytelling to express their experiences living in America. From our latest issue, “Progressive educators have an essential role in sustaining democracy and can explore difficult content within the safety of their classrooms. The arts provide teachers and students with opportunities to embrace changes in society and to rethink teaching and learning as acts of consciousness that can raise and empower students.”—Flávia Bastos and James Rees #mlkday2019
Change is good! 👌🏻 we don’t always realize what God’s plan is meant to be, but he doesn’t call us to know the plan! He calls us to be brave enough to trust his plan! 🙏🏻
He will take you down paths that cause you to shed a few tears! He might take you down a path you aren’t ready for, but that’s just so you grow into the person you were meant to be! 🙏🏻 pray, pray everyday and know he has a reason for every season! .........................
Are you willing to follow God’s path even through the tears and the unknown? Are you willing to face the battle set before you? Sister, embrace your journey! Be proud of your battle scars! Empower others! Simply, love yourself ❤️
What’s your “why”?
You need to know why you’re doing what you’re doing. There’s going to come a time when you say “why the hell am I doing this?”, and you need to be able to immediately tell yourself the answer. Otherwise, there’s a good chance you’re not going to push forward.
For me, mine is because I simply love working out right now. I love doing one workout a day and seeing the results it brings with it. I know that I’m not trying to be competitive or set a new PR everyday. I’m just trying to push myself as hard as I can during each workout. That’s enough for me right now. Just being happy and health while continuing to push my limits.
Take a moment and think about your “why”. It’s okay if you don’t know what it is, but start to think about it more and it’ll become clear. Why do you go to the gym every day? Why do you push yourself? What really is your goal? Do you have one? Why do you want to be in shape? Why do you want to lift heavy weights? Why do you want to be able to do a muscle up? Take the time to think about it.
If you know the answer, I’d love to hear about it below. Feel free to share.

I'm putting Office gifs in all my PowerPoints, sorry students.
Detailed daily plans from the minute I get to school until the time I go home just in case I’m ever not there. I leave this extended detailed plan on my desk next to my sub materials in case I have an unplanned absence. Yes it’s a lot of work now, but at least I’ll know my kids are always taken care of! ☺️🍎 #lessonplans#detailedplansforsubs#iteachkinder#teachersofinstagram

It’s what I’ve been doing all weekend and boy has it been wonderful.
With exams coming up in school this week, I had the easiest lesson plans of the year. My plans were done and my exams were modified for my pull-out resource classes before last week was even over. For the first time this year, my weekend did NOT consist of school work and stress, but instead relaxation and pup cuddles. I wish this was every day 😍🐾
How do you like to lesson plan? I try to tackle one subject at a time, planning out the week as much as I can (I’ve yet to plan out a whole week ahead of time this year though 😂). Filling out these lesson slides for my students each week not only gives them a great visual for the lesson...but they also help me with my planning. I keep one tab open with my @planbookcom and my Lessons at a Glance in the next tab...then work my way through each lesson so I’m pretty set up for the week. The link to these slides is in my profile if you’d like to learn more about them. () #lessonplans#iteachfourth#teachersfollowteachers

I love tracking on a spreadsheet BUT I’m still old school and love using paper trackers even more. And what’s better, the paper is not on my clipboard it’s on my iPad! And I can print it when it’s done with highlights and annotations as evidence for my small group work! Interested in trying it out? Can be used for ANY Grade ANY class! Comes with a spreadsheet for modifying and a hard copy as is. Link in bio🍎 I also have an attendance tracker with a spreadsheet that can be downloaded for free! ⭐️

My students HATED me for giving them this problem. I made them struggle with it all period. I went over it the next day and they pleaded for me not to put it on their test 🤣 It became a great threat mechanism to get them to get work done and to stop talking lol.
