When I was offered a job starting in October, I figured it was the opportunity to do something I never have time to do in normal life. After learning Spanish on and off for the last few years so decided I would study properly for a few weeks before having more of a holiday with Rob. Being my disorganised self I picked Cuba on a suggestion of a friend and a bit of a whim. It turns out Cuba is really quite difficult when travelling alone! My first week involved crying in hotel toilets twice ( #reallife) and leaving my Spanish class early in a bit of a strop because I’d done 3 hours of grammar and still couldn’t say anymore on the street. However by the weekend I’d caught a collectivo to Trinidad with five lovely Italians then met two Irish brothers in the town square and danced with them in a cave. A mixture of salsa and Irish dancing is just what you want for a Friday night at the end of a tough week. I’ll post a few more #latergrams as there was no WiFi in Cuba (I know, a #millennial struggle 😂)

In addition, our intensive Spanish classes and courses start every Monday. You do not have to wait long for a new course to start.⠀

Que maravilla! How wonderful second full week, when your students learn their survivor expressions to survive the Spanish class. They learned the expressions, they played and had an assessment. This has worked for me since I have been a Spanish teacher to maintain the use of the target language not just in the classroom but outside with them.
I spent a long time writing detailed instructions for each illustration in the new books. Part of the challenge is choosing a scene that sparks your imagination, creates meaningful context, while not giving away too much of the story! Illustrations are such a powerful aid to comprehension... if done well. They provide a scaffold upon which you can do more guesswork as the reader and punch above your level in terms of what you’re normally able to understand. For teachers they’re also a God-send - prediction activities are endlessly surprising and create so much purpose for reading. (Books available for pre-order now. Link in bio.)

Have we mentioned how much we love this city? Guanajuato, “La Cuna de la Independencia” - The Birthplace of Mexico’s Independence. Right now the town is preparing for the independence celebration on September 15th. Who here thought Mexico’s Independence Day was on May 5th? 😆

This is “La Laguna de los Siete Colores” - “The Lagoon of Seven Colores” in Bacalar, QR México. We visited this place on a whim last year and were blown away by how beautiful it is. Bacalar is still a fairly quiet town that doesn’t see as much tourism as Playa del Carmen. We can’t wait to go back!
Have you ever been to a “Laguna” before? If so, where?
