The Milky Way. In the middle of no where.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I dun think I will get to see the Milky Way again during this coming trip but it was still amazing to see al these stars coming out of no where and seeing it with your bare eyes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
MSN and CBS News this morning: The first photo is a group of 60 Wisconsin students who are performing the nazi salute in their prom photo. Even though the photo was taken last spring of last year, and even though the photo was not taken on school grounds- many individuals, as well as the school, do not think there is a time limit for exposing hate. ▫
There is DEFINITELY a massive problem within this nation. Bigotry and prejudice on all levels has survived throughout United States history due to the hateful, discriminatory mortar that was used to lay the early bricks of this nation's foundation. ▫
However, much time has passed, and many of us as Americans understand that this foundation must be replaced with a brand new one. Unfortunately, we still have an unprecedented amount of individuals who think displays of hate such as this are funny and that they are just in their actions. Today's hate and displays of welcomed ignorance has morphed into an entirely different entity that many individuals embrace with open arms. ▫
There is only one student within this photo that did not do the salute-his actions reminded me of the man who refused to do the Nazi salute. (The photo showing the man who refused to do the Nazi salute is second.) ▫ (The third photo) shows American children in a classroom performing the Bellamy salute. HOWEVER, this salute was ABANDONED in 1942 because it was disturbingly similar to the nazi salute.
There are symbols throughout history that have been used to promote some and enslave or obliterate others due to differences of race, ethnicity, color, religion, class, gender and sexual identity, and disability (For example, the Nazi salute, wanting to ressurect the use of the word "Aryan" to refer to certain racial groups, the confederate flag, etc.) ▫
Yet, still, many insist on traveling backwards in time instead of learning about history, embracing empathy, knowledge, intelligence and moving humanity forward towards a better future. ▫
