Jan Willem van Borselen (1828-1892). The Vlist is a peat river and was formerly used as a basin for the polders around the river, so there were many mills on the banks of the river for pumping the water.
Since I mixed way too much paint for the painting in my previous post, I decided to play around some more and made a much larger painting! I didn’t want to this painting to be exactly like the other one (even though they are very similar), so I went with the flow and made decisions as I painted instead of planning ahead of time. .
I had A LOT of fun painting the sky! I’m not used to painting washes this large (9inx12in) so I was not anticipating the full body movements in order to cover the whole thing! I seriously thought about leaving the sky as is, even (last slide).

Painted with Mijello Mission Gold and M. Graham watercolor paint on Saunders and Waterford hot pressed watercolor paper block. I used @zenartsupplies Black Tulip, Silver Black Velvet, and Winsor & Newton Cotman brushes.
