So I’m starting a weight cut. Right now I’m about 215 pounds, at around 22% body fat. Ive been traveling a lot the past 2 months so I’ve gained about 10 or 15 pounds. Im back to being chubby. About to fix this tho. Here are some before pics. This time i just want to focus on being consistent with eating habits. I usually would obsess over the scale, but I’d rather not this time. Just solidly hit my numbers every day and track over time. Hopefully this wont take longer than 3 months however.
The one thing I don't agree with on this chart is that AFTER MEAL bloodsugar. 180 or less!!!! I did this for years and I had awful control. Do you realize what an average BG post meal of 170 will do to your a1c AND to your overall control. That is too high, speaking from personal experience. .
Since beginning this current chapter of my life, working the Cardiac step down floor (cardiac floor) at the hospital a few months ago, my already open eyes opened wider to the effects of this disease I have. The complications first hand that can be our outcome without proper care. .
Just this past week I've had patients receive fresh amputations, repeat amputations, open heart surgeries (even at 34 yrs old), so many of my patients are on dialysis due to lack of proper diabetes management.
It truly hits me everyday I see what poor diabetes control does to the human body. Legs and feet ate up with sores, infections due to neuropathy and not taking care of them, therefore amputations. Depression, denial, even ignorance to what they have done. Open heart surgery, Congestive heart failure is ugly, no matter the age. .
My dad was taken by congestive heart failure and these are the numbers he followed. I refuse to go down like that. As long as I have control, I will aim for better. My post meal aim is 120 or less. Sometimes I miss it and have a140 or even a 168, but it isn't common. My current a1c is 5.6 because I aim for better because I can!!! I choose to. .
Two years. So many lessons, so much re-learning. Sure, I’ve changed my eating habits and that’s been some work, but most of the effort has been on the mental aspect. Realizing how hard I am on myself— identifying harmful language — prioritizing kindness to myself in moments of struggle. Sure we can ALWAYS be doing more but it’s important to be OKAY with where you are now. It’s the only certain we have. Goals are great, don’t get me wrong, but I realized that I have never just been happy with myself because I’ve always made myself feel inadequate. I challenge you to be proud of yourself. It doesn’t matter what for, but take a moment to appreciate yourself. It’s so easy to put pressure on yourself, but you might be unwittingly dimming your own flame. You might be surprised at what you can achieve if you’re on your own team ❤️🙌🏆

1. STAY HYDRATED. Make sure to get plenty of water when you’re fasting. You need to drink more water because you’ll be eating less food & food has water so you’ll become dehydrated if you don’t get enough fluid..
2. AVOID TEMPTATION. Try to stay away form places where tempting foods may be around. Being around tempting foods makes fasting difficult..
3. TRACK PROGRESS. The scale isn’t the only way to measure. Are you losing inches, building lean muscle, clothes not fitting anymore? These are all good ways to measure progress..
4. SLEEP. Studies have shown that getting enough sleep suppresses your appetite &keeps your hunger cravings under control. A lot of your fasting time will be when you sleep.!
5. MAKE USE OF TIME. Do things that you love to pass the time. Read, go for a walk, listen to music, etc..
6. GET OUTSIDE. The sun will boost your mood & energy levels. Enjoy the outdoors and get plenty of sun..
7.EXERCISE. Try to incorporate exercise while fasting. This will accelerate fat burning even more and BOOST HGH..
8. REWARD YOURSELF. Set mini goals. When you reach that goal, have a cheat meal..

New Blog Post (link in bio) on Fats is up! .
Fat is a hot topic, with so many people taking extreme points of view!
Hopefully this blog clears up some things people may be unclear on, let me know if you have any questions! .
Before I was 300 pounds in 2015, I was 170 in 2013 but I was sickest I had ever been in my life. Shortly after this picture I was hospitalized the first time for a thyroid storm. I ended up spending most of 2014 in the hospital or in my Endo’s office. After a week in the ICU, I was facing open heart surgery at 26. We prayed big. I was sent home after the pressure in my heart decreased by 1 point. Just enough to take me off the list for surgery 🙌🏼 it has remained the same since the day I was released. Tell me that isn’t God?!
June my thyroid was removed and all hell broke loose again. I went from a very sick 170 to a very sick 300 pounds. Back to Emory we go 🤦🏻♀️ my ACHD (adult congenital heart disease) Dr. asked me to loose 20 pounds in 60 months. I lost 90. Then lost 20 more.
Slowly through diet and exercise I have started heal my body. I am now a healthy 187 and for the first time in my life, my thyroid labs have remained balanced for a year. My Graves antibodies have decreased by half and at one point, I had zero Graves markers this year!!! That’s remission status y’all! I’ll get to remission, I know it.
There are so many times over the last 4 years I’ve wanted to give it. I’ve told Adam I’m done. I can’t do this, I’m tired. Then I hear my girl giggle, and I remember the days I spent away from her. I remember my scared toddler coming see her Mommy in the hospital and asking about the wires and tubes. I never want her to go through that again. I never want to go through that again.
It’s not a diet. It’s a choice.
If you make the choice today or January 1, make the choice and believe in yourself! Never give up on yourself! Set a goal, smash it. Repeat.
Legitimately my favorite meal ever. Chicken, broccoli, and alfredo sauce. Also, is it possible to eat too much broccoli? Asking for a friend 😂🥦 #ImObsessed ✨ PS you can find the recipe for my alfredo sauce in my highlights

Good evening. This is definitely a very busy time of year for sure so a comforting a nourishing dinner is a must. Baked wild caught salmon from @salmonandsable seasoned with olive oil, salt and pepper along with sautéed mushrooms, garlic green beans with toasted almonds and half and sweet potato. It was simple to make and delicious!
