Man, Portland, OR was WILD and not at all over rated like I had expected. I’ll be back. Camping somewhere in northern Cali tonight I think.
A HUGE thank you to my 2 new friends @jeniferleae and Ashley for hanging out last night and showing me a great time! And as always, this photo was taken by the great @connerjones during sound check when I got bored and wondered off stage for a few minutes.
Over the last 2 decades, I have had an amazing career in the music industry, including founding one of the largest custom drum companies in the world, Dark Horse Percussion, crafted custom drums for over 1100 players, and then came the development of Black 35 Guitars. I went through the growing pains, transitions, the good, the bad and the ugly, the sheer amazement of it all, and I wouldn’t change a thing.
Two years ago, Black 35, was never supposed to become a business. Black 35 became a reality on the heels of selling Dark Horse Percussion simply because I couldn’t keep up with the business, along with being a husband, father, and full-time music educator. Black 35 was therapy for me for pure and creative enjoyment. It all started by making guitars for myself and I used my love for guitars and coupled it with my design and creativity to make unique, killer and affordable guitars. 300+ orders later, numerous interviews, and an extremely successful Summer and Winter NAMM Show, my little “therapy session” turned into so much more.
At 43, I’ve spent half my life being a music teacher and developing businesses. Any business owner can tell you that it can take a serious toll on your health, mind, and your well-being. The epicenter of my focus needs to be on my family, which is important beyond words, health, and my career as a music educator.
Effective January 1, 2019, the custom shop of Black 35 Guitars will be operating on a limited basis. My focus will be going back to the roots of making unique, affordable one-off guitars for all levels of musicians to dig into. I will still do custom builds; however, it will be more selective and not the primary focus of the business. Just as you would go to an artist’s gallery and see their work which you could acquire, commissioned pieces would come at a premium and not as frequent.
If you have an open order for a custom guitar, please know that ALL of my open orders will be fulfilled as planned and I will be in contact with you with status updates. NONE of that changes in any way, shape, or form.
Thank you SO MUCH and stay tuned for some killer builds. Cheers! Anthony Cartinella
