As so many people do their insta challenges these days, it made me realise I don’t actually have a photo of myself up on here! So here’s a few snaps of me just hanging out, doing some things I love & enjoying the summer holidays in the south west of Australia. I may teach kids but I can assure you I am just as big of a kid as they are 🙊
“It’s practically impossible to look at a penguin and feel angry.” 🐧
My class is always so proud of their directed drawings. I think they are surprised by what they can create.

Who doesn’t love a good fairytale? The concepts of make believe are seldom explored in a greater aspect than in the imagination of a fairytale. Something about today seemed perfect for a fairytale. Maybe it was the chaotic mess of testing this week or maybe it was just a moment to dream. When I was a kid, I loved fairytales of all kinds. Rumpelstiltskin was always one of my favorites as a child. Look at it now - it was a pretty dark story, but I didn’t see it that way. A few years ago I had a student who LOVED this story so much that he’d borrow my book on weekends and read it school. Eventually I bought him his own copy. I haven’t thought of it since then, until today. I didn’t plan on reading this book - but something drew me to it. I didn’t have a whole group to read to. Some kids were organizing books, some asked to use the little brooms, others wanted to doodle. After I started reading to my small group, one by one, the students began to move to the carpet to listen to the story. By the time we finished, all the students were on the story and they loved it. I can’t say I blame them!!
We are kicking off the new year with @_kickfix!! My students are loving using our new KickFix bands. They are quickly becoming a new favorite flexible seating choice! One of my sweet students told me that she loves using them because there are so many ways she bounce her feet on them when she needs to move. She loves to kick them, bounce on them, put her feet between them, and sometimes one foot on each side. I love that my students are able to articulate how and why the bands help them. 💕 #flexibleseatingforthewin#flexibleseating
#classroomsetup#teachertip | SAVING | Setting up a classroom *can be* super expensive and often comes out of the teachers pocket.
There are so many different areas to set up - the Library Corner, Writing Stations, Developmental Play Areas - the list goes on!! One way to save money when setting up a classroom is to create the different learning spaces using bunting.
Simply edit the bunting with the area that you want to name and hang them across the different areas of your room. You'd be amazed at how a simple sign can brighten up a space, draw the students eye and put a smile on their face.
I love the way @the.colourful.teacher has paired this font with my tropical bunting. The combo is on point! 👌🏼 How is your prep going this weekend? Shout out in the comments or send me a DM.

I get told occasionally I'm a good teacher. I blame it all on this little one. She has taught me more about patience, mess ups, and oopsies than anyone. She's taught me that sometimes a child really just doesn't want to do something simply because they are tired. She has taught me the importance of always treating a minute like it's a new one because maybe you might get a hug even though that morning you couldn't even get a love you. Being her mama is the greatest blessing and I can't wait to see what else she teaches me along the way.
Its PBL time in second grade!
We are creating a Native American museum filled with artifacts as we learn about the Powhatan, Lakota, and Pueblo people. (The "no touching" sign was tonight's final touch as I was prepping for a sub on Tuesday...) #iteachtoo#iteachsecond#projectbasedlearning

Thanks for all the active wear recommendations!!! 😍😍 Old Navy ftw! Thanks to coaching, I was able to treat myself to this cute new workout set and I’m in love!
Proud doesn’t even bing to explain how I feel about this kid and their writing. At the beginning of the year this friend was using a single letter to represent whole words and struggled to know any letter sounds and identification and look at this now! 💗 So. Proud. #iteachsecond#writersworkshop
I taunted my class today... during my prep toward the end of the day I put this up. I said nothing when they returned and when asked all I told them was they’ll find out more on Monday 😂
Oh man! They are soooo excited to find out more and to get their hands on this marble coaster. I plan to make this a Morning Tub rotation next week! All you need is some sticky tack and a wall... the design possibilities are truly endless!

I mean, home is where the pizza is. 🏡🍕 And the Netflix. 📺 How could you go wrong?
There’s nothing quite like a good old LIVE BUG delivery to your classroom! 🐛
Must be time to study life cycles! We start out with mealworms and move into butterflies! If you’ve followed me for a while you know I LOVE the butterfly unit!
Do you study life cycles!? Which ones!?
Did I have to match their guided reading notebook to their bin? No.
Did I? Yes. 😂 (Fun fact, this picture is from November #Catfished)
My school follows the Jan Richardson model for guided reading groups! I have these “notebooks” for the writing component! Every bin contains the books I will use for that group and their notebooks!

Teacher #teachertoolbox done! We were at @bunnings and I picked up the big one when my wonderful bf tells me I could get two smaller ones, which means more drawers, for the same price! Woo! Two coats of paint (swipe -> for a better view of the colours) and @missjacobslittlelearners labels - voilà! Can’t wait to get these into my room.
I attended a 3 day dual language training and 🤯. I learned so much I don’t even know where to begin! One of the most important things was the reassurance to continue on growing these 3 with my students. They go hand in hand in our dual language classrooms and we can’t forget about either of them. Ready to start a new week with fresh ideas in mind!

⭐️ Call me old school, but I love passing out student awards on Fridays! .
⭐️ Every Friday I honor three different students for having a great week. It could be for any reason, increased participation, improved behavior, persevering, kindness, really any little thing that comes up! These awards are never based on grades or perfect attendance or behavior. I love to celebrate the small things to show students that I notice what they are doing! .
. ⭐️ During the last few minutes of the day, I announce the winners for the week and the class cheers for their classmates. It is such a wonderful celebration and I love watching the kids beam with pride over these simple awards!
When I was little, my school did student of the month, which meant 10 kids got awards each year, I never made the cut. 😕That is why I select three kids each week. 😀 I keep track of who is celebrated each week to make sure I spread out the love! With three kids a week for 36 weeks there is plenty of opportunities for each student to hear their name and cheers from peers! 👏🏼 .
You can grab these simple awards that I use for FREE (link in profile)
Do you have any special Friday traditions in the classroom!? 👇🏼

Because when you have an extra room you turn it into your Diva Den. 🤷♀️😍💋💄👑 #beautyroom
If you can’t be KIND be quiet 🙌 Swipe to the last photo, it’s my fav! 🤣
Knowing when to say nothing and be QUIET is such an important life skill, not just for our little friends but adults too! 🙄
Kindness first! #kindness#teacherssupportteachers (texts/ messages should definitely be included too) #bekind
MENTAL HEALTH DAYS • Something that took me a really, REALLY long time to realize was to use my sick days. All of them. Mental health days are just as important as taking a day for the common cold. 🤕• Repeat after me... “I cannot pour from an empty cup!” • There is no possible way for you to be the best version of yourself for your students if you are burned out, checked out, or stressed out.☠️• So please, take my advice and use your sick days. You are important too, and you matter!🤩• (📷 via @thedesignerteacher )

Stop the presses! If you need a simple idea to get your kiddos to focus during a lesson, just have them cover you with sticky notes! We did this with character traits but it worked so well I could see extending it to other lessons, even math. Just have yourself or even another student be the “anchor chart” and watch how quickly students solve problems! No joke they were mesmerized. 🤩
Another day that teachers in LA are on strike to fight for better funding, smaller class sizes, more support staff, better wages, and more. Another day they are not in their classrooms, where they WANT to be. Instead, they’re outside in the rain, fighting for their students. That’s where they NEED to be. It brings back too many memories of the walkout here in Arizona. It’s so hard making the decision to leave our students, but the temporary absence is necessary because the fight is FOR them. It’s always for them. It’s sad that teachers across the country are finding themselves in this situation. But if no one else will do what’s best for students, you better bet that their teachers will. I’m rooting for all the teachers in LA right now! KEEP ON KEEPIN ON ✊🏼 #IsupportLAUSD#RedForEd#ULTAstrong
