Book 2 of 2019(fantasy): Gardens made entirely of ice, flipping kittens, tarot card readings, and the yummiest caramel apples all arrive in the cover of darkness and only at night will the circus come alive! Completely enchanting, The Night Circus pulled me out of a reading lull with the most colorful and descriptive language a reader could want! Celia and Marco are young magicians who transform various exhibits in a competition that may just come down to life or death. Unbeknownst to them only one can live at the end but until then the most amazing circus performances capture readers and put them right in the heart of the action. A couple times I was even reminded of how I felt during reading Harry Potter for the first time! *
“This was why she enjoyed baking. A good dessert could make her feel like she'd created joy at the tips of her fingers. Suddenly, the people around the table were no longer strangers. They were friends and confidantes, and she was sharing with them her magic.” —Heartless
Today I made a batch of rose macarons and I’m so happy with how they came out. I will admit that I screwed up half of the batch (testing and learning from my mistakes) — but it’s been awesome getting back in the kitchen and baking all the things. 🧁 Plus it doesn’t hurt to have family and friends close by to share all the sweet treats. 💜
QOTD: What is your favorite sweet treat? Also, do you like to bake? For me it’s definitely rose macarons — it feels like such a special treat so I’m happy that I can finally bake these.
What themes in books are you drawn to most? 🤔 I actually just recently talked about this with a group of elementary and middle school students. I focused on 3 themes:
i. #kindbooks I love stories that help you see the good in people and will make you believe in humanity again when you’re dealing with challenges or just seeing terror reign the world.
ii. #dystopia These books break down cultures and societies, trying to address flaws in our current system. I love that they make you think about what you would do in a character’s situation or what is wrong (and right) about the world we live in now.
iii. #magicalbooks These are the stories that take me to a completely different space and time, full of imagination and creativity. They are my ways of escaping from day-to-day hustle and stresses and a fun way of traveling without leaving your house #gnivibes
✨qotd: do the hard things first then carry on to the easy things or the other way around? I like to complete the hard things first so it’ll be a breeze for me later on
I thought of this question because I’ve been working on my latest stitch pattern and was doing all the difficult parts first, it’s about 75% done and I can’t wait to show you guys ☺️
Taking @non.violentdelights ‘s suggestion to read The Raven Boys while she reads Shadow and Bone 🥳

This week has already been a thing. It's been ridiculously busy already, and on top of that, I think Emma and I are both getting sick. I really hope this all blows over soon. On a positive note, my aunt is visiting from England this week!
I love these gorgeous classic editions! I can't wait to take more photos of them.
Writing can sometimes feel so lonely. I work from home as a freelance designer + illustrator and as a writer, and there are days when I literally don’t leave the house. I get caught up in the story, the project, the edits. Today was a beautiful day—I should have gone for a walk, or called a friend to meet up for coffee. Because I’m in introvert it’s so easy to choose alone time but I need my amazing community. Finding friends who get and support your writing (or whatever passion) is so important. If you’ve met your people, don’t forget to call them every now and again. ❤️
*rep search entry*
Hi @briarwick team! I am finally entering your rep search! Go me! 😆 .
Hi, my name is Samantha and I am 23 years old currently living in San Diego, CA! By day I am in charge of all paid-social for an newly international company! Phew and by night and during the day too I am a bookstagrammer! 😂 .
I have been a long admirer of your candles and LOVE how you have so many fruity scents! (MY FAV!) I unfortunately don’t have any in my collection at the moment but I plan on fixing that mistake pronto!
I would love to rep for you because candles make me so so happy! They just make the world a little brighter and smell a whole lot better! Yes I’m a poet can’t you tell..? 😬 . I love helping small businesses grow in the Bookstagram community and in my personal life as well! I know I would make an amazing rep for you ! .
My favorite book at the moment is a contemporary called Ryan’s Bed by Tijan but in the more popular book series world I LOVE ACOTAR and TOG! SJM is the queen of fantasy! My favorite character is probably Aelin because she loves cake and I mean that’s just relatable 😂 .
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my rambling! Much love!
Good luck to everyone entering! I’m seriously loving everyone’s posts! #briarwickrep5 .

Yesterday I read The Poet X. I’ve only ever read one other book written in verse (One by Sarah Crossan) and I loved it, so I decided to give this one a try.
The book follows Xiomara, a daughter to Dominican Republican parents in Harlem, who tries to come to terms with her changing body, her relationship with boys, and her highly religious mother through her poetry. When one of her teachers starts a slam poetry club at school, it changes her life.
The entire book is written in the form of poems. Every chapter is different from the next. Before starting this, I had my doubts about how deep a story really could be when written in verse, but I was immediately sucked into Xiomara’s story. The poems are raw and heartfelt, and you cannot help but sympathize with the protagonist. I was so hooked I finished it within the day.
Have you read any books written in verse? Did you like it?
I adore Pride and Prejudice. So it is only fitting that I loved Pride. It was a beautiful retelling of a classic novel, one that connects people to a timeless love story in a new way.
I loved making the connections of who was who while reading and I want to read more from this author. I know she has another book, American Street that I am desperately trying to get my hands on, but I want to to write more and more because I love her style and I love the pictures that she paints!
What retold stories do you love? (Other then fairytales)

Mayormente me parecían violentos y me causaban rechazo.
(Sigue)
HAPPY TUESDAY! Banish those blues with a good book! QOTD: What do you like to do to get over the weekend slump? .
ABOUT THE BOOK SHOWN:
Worlds collide when a 17th century vampire meets a modern tattoo artist tormented by visions of her own untimely death. He’s haunted by guilt over the passing of a friend and lover, and their dark pasts unite them.
More human than vampire, Dark Diary is a quaint, sophisticated romance detailing the accounts of two lovers who have paid the ultimate price…
In the vein of classics like Wuthering Heights, frosted with the seductive allure of immortality, the story documents a pair torn apart by time.

Thanks to @scholasticinc for sharing this review copy with #kidlitexchange. THE LADY IS A SPY by Don Mitchell is on shelves 2/26!
“Virginia is doing a spectacular, man-sized job, and her progress is rapid and sure. You have every reason to be proud of her.”
~A letter from the OSS to Virginia Hall’s mother, 1944
This non-fiction YA is a fascinating account of one of the most dangerous and successful spies for the Allies during World War II. Mitchell recounts Virginia Hall’s story in great detail, bringing to life this amazing, humble woman and her fantastic feats of heroism and bravery during the dark years of the war.
I’m so glad to know Virginia’s story. Mitchell’s account was dense and thorough. This is definitely a book for older kids – grades 7-12 recommended. I sometimes felt bogged down by all the detail, but it never ultimately detracted from the story. I loved reading about Virginia’s practical, matter-of-fact manner, and how she addressed her challenges and problems head on and with an eye to the solution, not self-pity. Certainly she struggled, especially in finding a place as a woman in the CIA post-war, where she was overlooked for promotion, despite having significantly more experience than many of her male counterparts. Virginia was the consummate professional, wanting, above all, to be of service during difficult, tragic times. Though she may not have wanted recognition while alive, I’m glad her legacy lives on today and that, thanks to Mitchell’s book, more people can learn about this extraordinary woman.

Yesterday I took tons of pictures and it was great!! I hope to take more today. It is a great feeling to have pics I’m excited to share.
This is a preview of a #bookspiral I did with my sprayed edged books. Aren’t they pretty? Are you a fan of sprayed edges? What color do you like best or does it depend on the book? A good portion of these books are from @fairyloot I love when they do sprayed edges and/or exclusive covers.

Oh I love a blizzard especially when it's the end of January and it's our first proper snowfall of the season. Every child in the neighbourhood seems to be outside building snowmen and having snow fights and I wish I could do the same. Playing in the snow is definitely one thing I miss about being a kid. The days of building snow forts and have snowball fights all day seem so long ago. Has this blizzard hit where you are? If so, did you go out in it or do any Winter activities?
The only winter activity I've done so far is drink hot chocolate by the windowsill and watch the snow as it covered everything in sight. I'm hoping to venture out for a walk after I've finished my cup of coffee and this chapter of My Lovely Wife. After the walk I plan on making a hearty veggie stew for dinner, finishing the new season of Grace and Frankie which I'm absolutely loving so far and starting a new knitting project. Thinking about it, my Winter activities might be drinking teas, cooking hearty meals, and knitting in front of the tv.
Happy Sunday lovelies, I hope you're having a great day 💕 #hygge#onthetable#momentsofmine#culturetripbooks#currentlyreading
It's -22°C outside and I wish I could say there's no way I'm going out in that but tragically adulthood doesn't work like that. Our Winter has been weirdly Autumn like this year so it's a shock to face these temperatures and remember 9°C/47°F is not actually normal in January. How do you deal with harsh cold temperatures? I saw videos of people snowboarding in Montreal streets and I really wish I saw the brightside of this miserable weather like they did.
The only thing getting me through this day is lots of coffee and sweets and Book Podcasts like Getting Lit, Literary Disco, Reading Women, and Ink to Film. Do you listen to Book Podcasts? If so, what are some of your favourites? I'm looking forward to ending this day with a really hot long bath with soothing essential oils and endless cups of hot chocolate. I really hope tomorrow is a little kinder than today.
Happy Monday lovelies, I hope you're having a great day 💕 #hygge#onthetable#momentsofmine#culturetripbooks#currentlyreading
“Catch me if I fall, all right?”
A smile curved his lips in a most delightful manner. “I’ve already fallen hard, Wadsworth. Perhaps you should have warned me sooner.” - Hunting Prince Dracula🖤
