In general when you hear about gin being created using equipment from creating whisky, port, sherry and the likes, you expect the cask aged and a spirit that has a caramel like hue to it. Not the case with this gin and in that a approach they have set themselves apart.
I was fortunate enough to be invited to the @tobermorygin gin launch in London last Wednesday and what a treat it was. Emersed in a night on the Isle of Mull we got the opportunity to meet the team behind this new gin.
Tobermory is known for its whisky first and foremost having been established in 1798 by John Sinclair. This distillery has changed hands many times with its current owner Burn Stewart (now part of the South African giant Distell). Through the changes of ownership it has lead to periods of closure and most recently closed for a 2 year period to undergo a renovation. The distillery now is open for business with a very enthusiastic and passionate team looking to hero the land surrounding the distillery.
Now to the uniqueness...they have added a splash of the spirit coming from the whisky still prior to the distillation process. Alongside the traditional botanicals they have added tea, heather, elderflower and sweet orange peel. They are looking to add more and more locally foraged botanicals in the future to hero their surroundings of both coastal and mountainous terrains.
On the nose it’s sweet and fragrant with juniper, floral notes and a hint of woodiness. To the taste it coats your tongue with essential oils from the citrus. There are hints of sweetness, juniper and a subtle spice. Throughout the drink there is an undertone of woodiness.
The perfect serve is a slice of blood orange, some thyme and dried hibiscus flowers with loads of ice and a premium tonic. I don’t have any blood orange.
I used pink grapefruit instead and @schweppes 1783 light tonic. This gin is easy to drink and several G&Ts in an evening too.
It was also great to meet a fellow gin blogger, gin enthusiast @smile_theres_gin with much fun being had with boomerang and the likes!

The atmosphere of the shop, the taste of the food and the employees are all wonderful. The garden and Tokyo Tower are very beautiful because it is right next to Tokyo Tower.
The price is high but it is worth paying.
It's also great for business entertainment and taking guests from abroad. Very pleased.
Of course, if you tell us what you can't eat because of allergies, you can change it.
It's easy to get it at lunch, so it may be used for anniversaries and filial piety.

First up are their Kajang vegan satay sticks. I LOVE LOVEEEEEEEE satay and this did not disappoint. Can i say, these vegan bites are UNREAL!!!!! The texture makes them so similar to chicken that i actually thought i was eating meat 🤯 This dish also comes with cute little doughsticks (the ones you normally eat with congee😋) and salad - it’s a ‘must eat’ item!
Other recommended starters are the sweetcorn fritter balls (really crispy and pairs so well with the sweet chilli dipping sauce) and the Mekong prawns (has a lovely sharp spicy kick). Next up is the vegan coconut kari. Soya nugget bites, tofu, aubergine and bamboo shoot wrapped in an aromatic red Malaysian curry - you already know it’s goooood 🤤 and of course, i had to order the king prawn pad which was amazing, as standard.
For dessert, i had the coconut stuffed pandan pancakes with vanilla ice cream. The pancake was really soft with a subtle pandan taste and the caramelised roasted coconut filling gave it the nutty crunch it needed for that beautiful textual balance. It was the perfect ending to an awesome lunch ☺️ #stuffed

Papparich have taken one of Malaysia’s National dishes and whacked it between buns and, oh damn, is it good. This is an absolute flavour bomb with a mix of spice, sweet, savoury and sour. Throw in the peanuts and fried anchovies and you’ve got heaps of crunch too. Served with a side of fried chicken skin, this is one incredible dish! A Friday evening fuelled by @chateauminuty, Seabass ceviche and plenty of Padron peppers 🍣 This Soho champion of Nikkei cuisine pulls out all the stops with their very eccentric menu, fusing Japanese and Peruvian food flawlessly. Every dish is presented with bravado; brightly coloured sushi arrives fanned out on a platter, with the signature Sato maki rolls (named after the head chef) flambéed at the table with a blowtorch. The dynamite shrimp from @pfchangsasiantable is shrimply the best 🙌
PF Chang’s is all about fresh, gourmet pan-Asian food at reasonable prices. The restaurant is the only UK outlet of the popular PF Chang chain in the USA. The London restaurant features locally sourced ingredients with each dish being made from scratch. The dishes fuse Japanese, Chinese and Korean cuisine. Although I visited on a Tuesday, the restaurant was buzzing.
I tried the following dishes:
- The original dynamite shrimp - probably their most popular dish - crispy tempura battered shrimp, with spicy Sriracha aioli and spring onions;
- Kung pao chicken - wok-fried chicken with kung pao sauce, toasted peanuts and red chilli pods;
- Mongolian beef - tender flank steak caramelised with their signature dark soy sauce and garlic served with spring onions; and
- Handmade lobster and shrimp spring rolls - filled with the sweetest lobster claw and knuckle meat, poached shrimp, lemon and chives.

If you’re looking for the perfect combination of gorgeous, Instagrammable food and delicious taste, head to Bala Baya. Everything at the restaurant is so pretty, including the ice cubes (yes, I even had to take a photo of the ice cubes - make sure you swipe through to see this!).
The restaurant brings the finest Israeli cuisine to the city of London. It is the first project from Israeli born chef @erantibi who is paying homage to his roots with his food. The dishes are all made from fresh, sustainably sourced ingredients and are designed for family-style dining.
The dishes I tried include:
- Parsnip and honey semifreddo - with butterscotch, honeycomb and rose petals;
- Prawn baklava - king prawns with kadaif, bitter lime syrup, lime cream, Persian lime and Nori dust;
- Fish and fennel - whole sea bass with fresh fennel, burnt sage, lemon, vine tomatoes, butter and anise sauce;
- Chickpea hummus - with mixed spices, pine nuts, pickled chilies and tomato pulp;
- Freshly baked pita bread; and
- Cheesecake with white chocolate, salted caramel, banana fritters and tahini crumble.
The linguine with fresh crab from @latagliata_london_ definitely pasta the good food test 👌
La Tagliata has earned a spot in my list of favourite dining spots for this year. The focus of the restaurant is classic Italian dishes made with the finest seasonal ingredients. While the food is simple, it works and if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
The staff are all passionate about food and are always willing to offer their suggestions. There are two sites - one near Liverpool Street and the other in Fitzrovia.
I tried the following dishes:
- Le Linguine Al Granchio - long pasta with fresh crab, chilli, garlic and parsley;
- Il Tonno Affumicato - smoked tuna served with mixed leaves, sun-dried tomatoes, chives, caramelised onions and lemon dressing;
- I Gamberi Alla Fra’Diavola - king prawns in a spicy tomato sauce;
- La Tagliata Di Tonno - marinated grilled tuna served with mixed leaves, fennel, cherry tomatoes, olives and oranges;
- Semifreddo Alla Fragola - homemade strawberry semifreddo served with chocolate sauce; and
- La Torta Al Cioccolato E Mandorle - warm homemade almond chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream and almond crumb.
I thoroughly enjoyed all of my choices so worth trying some of the dishes above!
