Our 2019 stretch goal is to pay $31,554 to the mortgage on a take home of under $67,000. I don’t know if we can reach it right now. We’ve paid $3,320 already to medical so far. Adding another 👶🏻 in 8-12 weeks will certainly add more unexpected expenses. It’s early in the year so it’s financially like the Wild Wild West around here. 🤠
Knowing this, we chose to tithe last Sunday more than usual. The person I want to become is one who can trust the Universe and give generously without being a miserly Scrooge.
I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong with our medical spending, though. It felt like money was disappearing faster than it should. So I checked our medical flex spending account. Insurance said they paid $450 more than what we received. 🤔 I thought. Flex paid two of the same bills we paid. 🤔
I spent a *sexy* 36 mins on the phone with insurance and providers going over my little spreadsheet calcs. 🤓 Lo and behold, we should get $519 back in the next 3 weeks or so. Insurance is reviewing to see why there’s such a difference in the numbers. This puts us soo much closer to our goals. My anxiety can take a breather. 😅
Four takeaways I’ve learned from this are:
1️⃣ Matching med bills with claims insurance receives can save $,$$$! I’ve disputed about 90% of our med bills and saved every time.
2️⃣ Trust but verify. With insurance, the left hand doesn’t always know what the right hand is doing.
3️⃣ Scrutinizing bills before paying is far easier than chasing refunds later.
4️⃣ Giving almost always results in getting more. 💜

In Florida, vehicle owners may be required to purchase two types of auto insurance. The first type of auto insurance is outlined in Fla. Stat. § 627.736. It requires every person who registers a vehicle in Florida to provide proof they have personal injury protection (PIP) and property damage liability (PD), with minimum limits of $10,000 each. The second type of auto insurance requirement is defined in the Florida Financial Responsibility Law. It requires drivers who have caused accidents involving bodily injury/death or received certain citations to purchase bodily injury liability (BI) coverage with minimum limits of $10,000 each person and $20,000 each accident, referred to as split limits.
