Day 2 @ Pondicherry (continued): The Trip to Auroville
Crêpes in our stomach, two scooters fueled and revved up, Google Maps readied and shades ON, we set out to the famed Auroville Matrimandir. Jean Mark (see previous post) had given some suggestions for cafes to explore as well. .
Alas, that was not to be. After riding for around half an hour, one of the scooters overturned at about 15 min away from our destination. What followed was a chaotic 4 hours! Nevertheless, at 4.30 pm, two healthy and two bandaged girls drove out of the PIMS hospital emergency towards Auroville. ;) Unbeknownst to us, the matrimandir shuts it's gates for visitors at 5pm. Hence despite our excellent efforts, we could not visit the much talked about domed temple. It wasn't all disappointment though. Our fully fueled scooters at hand, we decided to explore the forests around for what we called a highly-adventurous ride. :P .
A nice French man we met taking a stroll in the woods told us about a cafe named Neem Tree, the location of which was a little hard to access. Determined as we were, we spent the next half an hour finding our way through the area to Neem Tree. The cafe did indeed turn out to be a cosy setting slightly into the forest, serving hot masala chai and onion pakoras. In Pune I have always been let down by the quality of the coconut chutney. Hence the fresh white and red chutney served in the traditional Tamil style, with the pakoras, was truly heaven in mouth. .
A little adventurous, a little worrisome and a whole load of memories - thus went our Auroville trip! .
Finally, we have arrived in Delhi (India). Tomorrow we have 9 hours by car to Shimla, we are super excited but now it is time to go to bed after a loooong trip with two amazing cyclists and better people @milton_ramoss and @jorge_padrones, a pleasure to share this experience together!
