Day 22 - This was shot almost 10 years ago after one of the worst ice storms I had ever seen. Some people were without power for nearly 2 months. It did make for great photography though...3 days later when the roads weren't a death trap.
This snow is beautiful, but there is a dangerous thick layer of ice under it. And it's cold. Over 16hrs power outage so far, & I'm ready for it to come back on. Keeping those #DukeEnergy#Lineworkers in my thoughts. I'm sure they want to be in a warm home now too. (Also, I'm glad I have 2-day shipping!)
This cold weather has me remembering a crazy shoot 4 winters ago... there was a brutal ice storm on the night of our planned shoot, which involved a ring a fire. The city was shut down but we said sure let’s do it anyway! It was so cold the kerosene soaked logs would not light. My crazy friend @pennyf17 said let’s go get gasoline! That will work! So we drove my smart car to the gas station, which was like ice skating since the roads were solid ice. But we made it. Got a gas can and filled it up. Back at the set another crazy friend @iamvong started pouring the gas and lighting it! It worked! All the while @lilliesyracuse was inside preparing herself to model in 10 degree ice storm weather! Wearing @cherylbrehm’s beautifully sheer pageant gown. Outside Vong was pouring gas around and trying to set things on fire, and Penny was getting her Polaroids ready to shoot. Then Penny says, Vong you’re on fire!! His pants caught the flames and he laughed and rolled in the snow and said Jen, get Lillie! Shoot!!!! The next 7 minutes were a blur of focused shooting magical madness. That’s all the time we had, and this is what we made.... I’m so grateful to be surrounded by crazy friends who push and support me to bring these crazy ideas to life!!! ✨ #eastnashville#nashvillearts#icestorm#wintershoot#liveworkcreate
Ice, Ice, Baby....
We, thankfully, have power back now so after I snuggle my babies for a bit “operation cleanup” will begin. Sometimes we’re reminded that nature has such power and all you can do is wait and pray that it will all be okay.
Last night we listened to ice falling, limbs snapping, and cringed every time our lights flickered. All I could think about is how thankful I was to have a warm and cozy house to be in. ❤️
I hope everyone is warm and safe this morning! Thank you to all of those working through this storm.
PS- The last picture is our driveway from the road, you can’t even see our house! 🏠

We woke to a world encased in ice. It’s incredibly beautiful. Our jaunt outside was short lived, however, as the winds are picking up and the forest is filled with the reverberating sound of cracking and breaking trees. .
Oatmeal with simmered blueberries and hot cocoa with honey has been served. Now with happy, full bellies we snuggle up and send fortifying wishes up to the tippy-tip-tops of the trees surrounding the house. .
