Another book recommendation coming at you via #crotchshot on this lovely Wednesday! I enjoy getting creative in the kitchen but sometimes between work and blogging and other life happenings, I don’t feel like thinking about dinner. 🍗
This is why I turn to cookbooks! I recently picked up #eatwhatyoulove by @daniellewalker and I’m already loving it. While I try to eat Whole30 as much as I can, this book offers me some of the treats I’ve been missing but in delicious paleo form😋
I’ve found that allowing myself to indulge in healthier treats satisfies my cravings without sending me into a downward spiral of sugar cravings and guilt. I still struggle every day with the perfect “balance” of healthy eating and allowing myself to live my life. I think it will always be something I’ll work at, but having paleo options for a treat here and there is definitely helping! What are your favorite healthy indulgences? 🍩
What does it mean to throw something “away?” The average American produces 4.4 pounds of garbage every day. More often than not, once an item enters the garbage bin it is soon forgotten, but that item will remain on the planet for years - especially if it is made of plastic.
Humans have produced 8.3 billion tons of plastic, and around 60% of that is still on the planet in some form. Most is trapped in landfills or thrown in incinerators, where it can pollute the air with toxic chemicals and harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change. About 10% of plastic, or 26 million tons every year, enter the ocean, making a devastating impact on marine ecosystems and infiltrating our water sources in the form of microplastics. Only about 9% of plastics are recycled in the US. We know we can do better.
It’s now clear that “out of sight, out of mind” is simply not an option. We think it’s time to change the way we view our waste. Think of all the ways you can reduce the waste you produce every day. Start with small changes, and gradually you will begin to see how easy and empowering it can be to live waste-free! 🔅FOLLOW US🔅 as we prepare to launch our new site providing you with the tips and tools necessary to live a modern eco-friendly life.

This is something we all should be conscious of. It’s so easy to focus on what’s not going they way we want rather than be grateful and talk about what is. (Without sounding boastful)
I know i’ve shared this story before.. but it holds such a beautiful & special place in my heart. 💛 once upon a time.. we were newlyweds living paycheck to paycheck.. and I had just graduated college and couldn’t find a job. i didn’t feel like i could purchase anything of my own wants. one afternoon, we went grocery shopping at trader joe’s and all i wanted was some flowers, but I put them back.. we didn’t “need” them. then my husband walked over to me and said, “babe, if $6 flowers will make you happy and bring a smile to your face.. get them.” and since then, nearly every time we’ve grabbed groceries.. we’ve also grabbed flowers. sometimes it’s the seemingly littlest moments that stick out to you forever. for me, it’s flowers.. every.single.time. that I pick up a bouquet I think of that moment when we had so little and just how much it meant to me. ✨ tears in my eyes as I type this today.. because of that moment, i’ll never forget how far we’ve come as a couple and i’ll always appreciate these bouquets. to some people, they just see simple flowers in a vase.. to me, I see gratitude. I see growth. I see change & transition. I see sacrifice. I see selflessness. I see love. ✨ #itsthelittlethings
| CHICORY |
Chicory root is a blue flowered herb that grows throughout North America and Europe. Its roots make a great caffeine free coffee substitute, and you can mix its plant leaves directly into your salad. But chicory’s big claim to fame comes from inulin, which is a prebiotic fiber. And while technically a type of sugar, inulin behaves differently than table sugar because you can’t digest it; so it has little to no impact on your blood sugar. Instead, inulin beelines to your large intestine and works as a prebiotic that feeds your good gut bacteria. Probiotics get a lot of glory, but prebiotics are just as important. .
Inulin is one of those rare ingredients that also naturally occurs in certain foods and actually lives up to its health hype. Some of its benefits are:
1. Helps you lose weight.
2. Improves nutrient absorption.
3. Reduces constipation.
4. Provides essential oils.
5. Improves bile flow to optimize cholesterol and fat.
6. Boosts liver health.
7. Lowers inflammation.
If you’re curious about introducing more inulin into your diet, you have a few options. Some good food sources of inulin include raw Jerusalem artichoke, dandelion greens, raw onions, and raw garlic; IF YOU KNOW ME YOU’RE AWARE OF MY LOVE FOR BOTH GARLIC AND ONIONS 😂. You might also opt for a supplement, available at most health food stores and even online.

Did you know that skin is a crucial player in the human body's endocannabinoid system, which regulates many processes relating to mood, memory, pain sensation, and more? That means topical CBD products, whether creams, balms, or salves, are an effective way to trigger the regulatory properties of the ECS 🌱⠀

🌱 The newest recipe on the blog is my favorite Thai quinoa coconut salad from a local restaurant here in Oakland - or as close as I can get to it at home 😉. It’s refreshing for the warmer weather, and you can use any grain you have in your fridge ready to go. I’ve already had it 3 days in a row. Give it a try, I’m sure it will become your favorite summer salad! ☀️ 🌱

GUYS. I was so excited to receive this order for free this month. I had heard incredible things about this oil and knew I really wanted it for my toddler who has always been so me who needed ALLLLL the help in the sleep department 😂 Even at 3 he still wakes during the night. And has woken with bad dreams the last month or two. As soon as we got it I began applying Dreamcatcher over his heart and cerebellum every night before bed. Diffusing it in his bedroom occasionally as well. Friends. He has not woken up with a bad dream SINCE. 😱😱 I cant express how grateful I am for that. Having a peacefully sleeping toddler every night is worth every penny for this precious gem. ✨🌙

Okay, do you feel as good as I do when your home is clean and tidy? I love organizing my desk before I get to work - so I can really get into it. If you asked me this years ago, I probably would have had no part in this conversation and thought it was a waste of time. Now, I see the benefits of having a clean and tidy home. I am strating to feel so much more grounded and my mind feels clear when things are in order. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Do I have a long way to go? Yes - but I am learning to love organizing. My aunt @tlkeehn told me about Marie Kondo's book, "The life-changing magic of tidying up". This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it if you do not know where to start. She taught me that getting rid of things can feel so good! Another resource I love is @howjendoesit. She has a wonderful Youtube channel with videos that are so fun to clean along with. She has incredible tips for how to keep a clean and organized home - even with little kids.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Is my house tidy all the time - heck no! I want my kids to play but I also want to teach them how to resepct their things and our home. I also do not want them to focus on just "things" - I want them to enjoy experiences and adventure as well.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I usually focus on wellness but I feel that this impacts our overall wellbing and being organized helps set you up for being able to have more time to do the things we love. This means having more time to spend time with the people we love and of course more time to meal prep and exercise so we can take care of our health. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I hope you all have a very productive day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TAG A FRIEND WHO FARTS!
The average amount a person farts is five to 15 times a day, but what’s normal is different for everyone.
The NHS advises five things you can do to cut down excessive or smelly wind - the first is to drink peppermint tea.
Peppermint tea and all other peppermint preparations contain an oil called menthol as their active ingredient.
According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, or UMMC, a typical adult dose of tea is 1 teaspoon of dried leaves steeped in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes. In most cases, you can take multiple doses between meals without harming your health.
Menthol oil relieves spasms in smooth muscle tissue, Drugs.com explains, and peppermint tea achieves its bloating-related benefits by relaxing your muscles and allowing you to release any pent up gas or flatulence.
Brigham and Women's Hospital classifies peppermint tea as a natural remedy for bloating and gas and notes that evidence for the effectiveness of some natural remedies relies largely on anecdotal accounts, not scientific study.
In addition to peppermint tea, potential natural remedies for bloating and gas include chamomile tea, caraway, turmeric, anise, coriander and fennel.

So what are your best cooking choices? ⠀
I recommend cutting out all refined oils except extra-virgin olive oil. When cooking, use extra-virgin coconut oil, avocado oil (which can be used at higher temperatures because these are highly stable oils), and even ghee (clarified butter).⠀
Ghee has a higher smoking point at 400˚ to 500˚F and provides the same nutrients in grass-fed butter like cancer-fighting conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). Ghee and butter are also high in vitamins D and A, omega-3 fats, and butyric acid, which can boost immunity and help inflammation, as well as protect against colon cancer.⠀
Coconut oil tolerates temperatures up to about 350˚F, so it’s great for most baking and medium-high heat sautéing. Olive oil is best for low-heat cooking or used raw for dressing salads. Avocado oil, macadamia oil, and walnut oil also are wonderful raw and make great dressings.⠀
Increased consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils, which are highly inflammatory to the body and unstable, has subsequently increased inflammatory diseases. Over-consuming omega-6 fats and under-consuming omega-3 fats increases numerous health issues including cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, pre-diabetes, IBS, arthritis, asthma, cancer and autoimmune diseases.⠀
That’s because omega-6 fats fuel your body’s inflammatory pathways and counteract the benefits and availability of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats, creating even more inflammation.⠀
We need to eliminate these highly processed vegetable oils that are so prevalent in the standard American diet. Instead, I suggest using more plant-based and animal-stable fats. ⠀
I embrace coconut oil, ghee and even some grass-fed butter as part of my diet. After all, we’ve been eating these and other traditional fats for centuries before flawed science and so-called experts told us they were unhealthy and caused heart disease.⠀ Via: @drmarkhyman

It’s Thursday, I had a productive AF day, we manifested a new home, and I think I’m finally done detoxing that ramen I ate earlier this week — I’ll cheers to that!
And this booze-free Paloma is exactly what I want to sip on! I combined a bottle of my favorite kombucha [ @healthade ] with the juice of 1 lime and 2 grapefruits for this easy drink. Not only is this drink refreshing, it’s also #guthealthy , immune supporting, and metabolism boosting. Enjoy!
alright. let’s get right down to the good stuff. i was in a conversation last week about postpartum.. and how the one thing we don’t talk about is the one thing we should probably talk more about!! how our bodies can change and how we can sometimes feel about that change. i had someone ask me the other day “did your belly get all loose and squishy after?!” GIRL, YES. i mean.. can we all agree YAY for high-waisted everything?! but here’s the thing.. i lost the pregnancy weight pretty quick, toned up after about 8/9 months post, and didn’t feel like ME until almost 2 years. that being said, my body IS different. the more active & healthy i am, the more skin i have.. that is just a fact that some of us will have to face. i’ve got a very short torso & close set hips.. so that means my babe stuck out A LOT. like 45 inches around the day i started having contractions. my normal waist is about 25!! that’s a lot of growth and a lot of loss. and it.just.doesn’t.matter. i’ve got the most beautiful & kind & sweet girl. & i am working on my mindset every.single.day. to learn to love and re-love and appreciate this post-baby body.. & i’ll likely have to work on it forever! & you may have to, too. but in the words of hailee steinfield: “you know some days you feel so good in your own skin, but it's okay if you wanna change the body that you came in. 'cause you look greatest when you feel like a damn queen.” 👑 so here’s what i have to say.. there is NOTHING wrong with wanting to work on yourself & learning to love your “new” body AND still also love and appreciate it for being so incredible!! remember to do the workouts you love, fuel your body properly, honor the ups & downs of it all, and focus on how you FEEL during the journey. we want to be the best wives.mothers.friends we can be.. and a part of that is taking care of ourselves physically AND emotionally. loving & working on yourself is THE KEY. there is also nothing wrong with our bodies just because our tummies’ skin didn’t go right back to before.. here’s to all the beautiful bellies, the tiger stripes, the loose saggy skin, & those blessed ones whose bellies DID get back to before. we’re so beautiful and blessed!
