My rescue hen Gretchen getting comfy on a faux fur blanket. When I picked her up from a Chicago backyard she’d wandered into, she was so sick, she needed to be hospitalized. She’s so much happier now. #chickensofinstagram#friendnotfood#hen#chicken
It’s a speckled egg kind of week apparently, and I’m totally ok with the ”misfires” 😂. It’s a whopping 2 degrees here, so I had to collect eggs about four times already today just so they wouldn’t freeze, but I forgot to collect some from the quail pen and they were frozen solid 🤦🏻♂️. When it gets in the negatives at night I have no choice but to put a heat lamp/warmer in the coop. It’s not ideal, but sometimes it’s just too cold and my roosters are notorious for getting really bad frostbite. This cold spell is suppose to break in a day or two, so the heat lamps will be turned off then. My coops may be a wind break, but they won’t be insulated until spring, which is why temps in the negative make me nervous. I also throw in a lot of scratch grain/corn on days like this to crank up their body temps.
Les poules semblent se protéger du soleil sous les chaises ... sauf la poule punk surnommée « rod stewart »... au fait , je ne sais pas chez vous mais chez nous les poules se sont remises à pondre .... #hen#lol
When we clean out the fridge or after making a meal we like to give the girls a little piñata of snacks by filling up their @happyhentreats basket with fruit and veggie leftovers. It lets us have less food waste, vary their diets, and keep the ants away from their snacks, while giving them an activity so we have #happychickens 🐓🐓🐓🐓
That particular snack is asparagus ends, celery tops, and strawberries that got freezer burned. So far no complaints from the girls about the quality
As chicken lovers, we need to help one another right? I have some questions that need answers. First, does anyone know why my goldie has green highlights on her neck feathers?
Another question is...I have this wooden coop that stands off of the ground in a large kennel. It has been raining a lot here and the outside of the coop is covered in mud. Does anyone know how to clean it?
Finally, does anyone know how to clean poop stains off of a wooden perch? All help will be appreciated. 😀 #hen#rooster#chicken#love#cleaningthecoop
🔊 Poor baby Lolita laying her egg . See how difficult for her is , it's always so hard for her . There was times in my past when I was an professional athlete when eating tons of eggs 5-8 egg whites and chicken breasts too it was so important for the fitness , I didn't imagine how much they suffer especially eggs from chicken factory . After seeing my girls how they are laying they're eggs I only eat my girls eggs until they can lay , and reduced number to , and i can't eat those from the supermarket. Every egg from my girls is a treasure and I'm not eating chickens anymore . it's Been lots of months , it's just happened . Does anyone of you relate ? Ps . She been trying for a wile on this video I only filmed the end .

Collected this basket of beauties today! Button quail lay just as much as chickens do! Now to just confirm fertility before I start selling them 😁. I also may or may not have bidded on a few emu eggs today (cough, cough*🤫🤞🏻). I honestly think a dream job of mine would be to open up a conservatory with tons of aviaries for rare/endangered birds. I’m throughly obsessed with hatching just about anything. One dream bird of mine has always been a cassowary, maybe in the future 😉.
