A great night with my girls, athletics is more than just “running in circles” around a track. It’s the amazing people you meet along the way, it just happens that mine & @niamhmo favourite pass times apart from running is eating (swipe for some more vegan food porn @90degreemelt)

In all seriousness, this type of post isn’t the most comfortable for me but I figured it could do more good than harm.
I also want to emphasize what’s possible when you surround yourself around BEASTS who are levels ahead of you in a certain area of life like @chrisericmartinez and lastly when you commit to YOURSELF that you WILL get results.
Obesity is a national crisis in this country and as such there are an infinite amount of products to solve it: weight loss pills, diets, routines, health hacks, etc. .
As a scrawny skinny kid I wanted the complete opposite.
I would constantly look for weight gain products and find nothing. It was frustrating as I felt “beefing up” would give me respect, strength and that clothes would actually fit me right vs. the typical shirt on a hanger look I used to sport 🤦🏻♂️
So for years I would hit the gym and just eat with no tactical plan in place because I wanted to bulk up. .
When I moved to LA and was considering working with @chrisericmartinez on the before pic they recommended I lose 10 to 15 lbs. I immediately said “hell no”. .
“I’m not trying to be skinny fit.” I told them. In fact, I wanted to add 5 or 10 lbs. I wanted mass! .
I fought them about 6 months until my own frustration of going to the gym and seeing no physical results gave in to them. .
They explained that first we cut the fat then we can build up (like life 🤔)
So here we are at the end of Phase 1.
Along the way I learned that we all got things we would prefer differently, insecurities if you will. Some of us are skinny and have a fast metabolism, some of us have a bigger nose and some of us get gray hair at a young age.
Some of us have all 3. Whatever. 🤓
Embrace your uniqueness. Shout out to all the skinny dudes ✊🏽🕴🏻
“I’ve been a member at energy gym for years but I finally decided to try personal training this past March. Since I started I have noticed major changes both physically and mentally. I’ve gone from a size 12 dress size to an 8 (in just six months!) and my mind has never felt clearer! Tom has been helping me reach my goals of getting stronger both mentally and physically! I can’t wait to see where I’m at in another 6 months!” - Dawn Horton member since 2016

photo on the left was taken in January of 2018, 5 months into my fitness journey. photo on the right was taken 1 week ago, now 6 months into weight lifting.
When I first started working out my only goal was to lose x amount of weight and be done with it. I would only eat salad and be comfortable on the elliptical for 45 minutes, 6 days a week. I was exhausted and spent too many times looking at myself in the mirror and just crying bc I hated myself and the way I looked. One day, I was on youtube and found @whitneyysimmons
Her perception of health and fitness changed everything for me. Since then, fitness has been one of the most constant positives in my life and something I can always turn to in times of stress. Putting my headphones in and tuning out the world for one hour a day brings me peace. .
Some things that worked for me:
▪️I started to track my macro nutrients. Google “tdee calculator”. calculate your tree based on your personal information, you will get a suggested estimate of how many calories you need to eat in a day and how many grams of protein, fat, and carbs need to be in those calories. I use the “MyFitnessPal” app to track all my food.
▪️I got a fitness tracking device!! I started with a fitbit blaze and now have an apple watch. Seeing how much you’re actually burning and knowing how much you need to is an amazing motivator.
▪️Weight training sessions 5 days a week along with HIIT 2-3 times a week. I highly recommended @whitneyysimmons for her workouts. I used to be scared of weights because I didn’t want to “get bulky”. LADIES - have no fear. We don’t even naturally produce enough hormone to get ‘swole’. You have to go wayyyy out of your way with supplements and training like body builders do to achieve that.
As you go along further and further into your journey you’ll realize what really works for you as well as what your body responds best to, just be patient and it will all unfold. fitness will provide so much more than your “goal body”, focus on how good you feel after a sweaty workout, or how much better your energy is after a healthy meal, and I promise the physical results will follow shortly after 💗

🥦 Broccoli, Beans, & Quinoa
⏲ Under 15 mins | Serves 2
I was in need of a quick dinner tonight & so I made one of my 4 ingredient meals. It’s so simple & easy but still muy tasty 😋 Also, these 4 ingredients are packed with rich nutrients, vitamins, & lotsaaa protein 💪🏼
What’s in my bowl🥣
▫️1/4 cup Tricolor Quinoa
▫️1/2 cup Vegetable Broth
▫️1/2 head Broccoli
▫️1/2 can (15oz) Black Beans
▫️Seasonings: chili powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, ginger powder
In a medium pot, cook the quinoa in the vegetable broth until all liquid is absorbed. In a separate pot, fill with water & add in broccoli florets. Let the broccoli cook for roughly 10 mins. Lastly, heat up the black beans in a bowl.
Serve everything in a bowl & add in seasonings. I topped mine with some cilantro & hemp seeds.

🍠 Sweet Potato Toast
Celebrating #ToastTuesday with some delicious sweet & savory sweet potato toasts 😋
Sliced sweet potato, toasted in a toaster on the highest setting twice (flipping the second time). Toast 1 - smashed avocado topped with cherry tomatoes, red crushed pepper, salt & pepper. Toast 2 - almond butter (@justins) topped with sliced bananas & hemp seeds. Toast 3 - roasted red pepper hummus (@sabra) topped with sunflower & pumpkin seeds.
It’s rainy & gloomy here for the next week or so ☔️ Be safe everyone around hurricane areas 💕
Dreaming of this bowl to fuel me through this hump day ✨ In reality I’m surviving off my banana oatmeal muffins, apples and carrot sticks until dinner tonight since I forgot to prep a lunch for the day 🙃 You win some, you lose some 🤷♀️ I hope your Wednesday lunch is more delicious than mine!
