This is me, #preexistingillness. This is also most of you, and/or your family. 53% of people report that they or someone in their household has a preexisting illness.
The reversal of ACA will remove the protection for people like me that have preexisting illnesses. As many as 130 million adults under age 65 in the U.S. have pre-existing conditions that could result in their not being able to get insurance coverage in the private market, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. ACA made it so insurers cannot decline or limit coverage due to a preexisting illness as long as you maintained continuous coverage. (42 U.S. Code § 300gg–3 - Prohibition of preexisting condition exclusions or other discrimination based on health status $ 300gg–4 - Prohibiting discrimination against individual participants and beneficiaries based on health status)
Reversal of Obamacare will not only remove this protection but also allow insurers to charge people with preexisting illnesses more, currently 42 US code 300gg - Fair health insurance premiums, protects against that. I already pay close to $800 a month for insurance, and because of that I live paycheck to paycheck.
ACA also requires essential health benefits, 42 U.S. Code § 18022 - Essential health benefits requirements. Meaning all plans must cover: (A) Ambulatory patient services.
(B) Emergency services.
(D) Maternity and newborn care.
(E) Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment.
(F) Prescription drugs.
(G) Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices.
(H) Laboratory services.
(I) Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management.
(J) Pediatric services, including oral and vision care.
Trump are leaves 6 million people exposed to higher premiums.
