Walked round RSPB Ham Wall this afternoon, cold and still with sunny spells. Always interesting here .... great egret, snipe, lapwings, and plenty of marsh harrier activity (all of which I failed to capture on camera) and as the light faded the impressive spectacle of the starling murmuration as they flock in to roost for the night. Supposedly in excess of 800,000 birds .... I did not count them!
Great egret with legs up to -here-
From a photo I took in Mexico a few years ago from very close range with a telephoto lens. In fact, I was almost too close and could barely fit the entire egret in the frame with all that leg.
Drawn last night while watching Harry Potter.
Using his longest telephoto lens, Bob Schamerhorn successfully captured this intimate moment between this Great Egret parent and its offspring. ⠀
Bob's beautiful photo earned a spot on the 2018 #AudubonPhotographyAwards top 100 list.
the beautiful white heron
was floating along above the water
and then into the sky of this
the one world
we all belong to
sooner or later
is a part of everything else
which thought made me feel
for a little while
quite beautiful myself
