“I grabbed my book and opened it up. I wanted to smell it. Heck, I wanted to kiss it. Yes, kiss it. That’s right, I am a book kisser. Maybe that’s kind of perverted or maybe it’s just romantic and highly intelligent.” – Sherman Alexie in The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian
Currently reading: Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie.
Americanah is my first work of fiction by the author. Prior to reading it, I was only familiar with her feminist essays We Should All Be Feminists and Dear Ijeawele - A Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions. I really enjoyed the essays and I’m slowly but steadily making progress on the 600 pages that is Americanah. So far, it’s been an interesting read, but I’m still waiting for the moment when it sweeps me off my feet. We’ll see.

🥡 Do you like to cook or are you more of a “has a dedicated takeout menu drawer” person? Takeout is awesome, especially when it can be delivered 🙌🏻, but eating out also gets expensive really quickly (particularly here in Los Angeles). So as someone who is on a very tight budget, but also wants to eat more variety than just baked chicken and vegetables, I was really excited to get the Double Awesome Chinese Food cookbook by @meimeiboston courtesy of @tlcbooktours and @roostbooks. 🥟 It’s filled with over 100 recipes including some of my go-to favorites like beef & broccoli and fried rice. The recipes are easy to follow and there’s a whole section explaining basic Asian ingredients you should have on hand in your pantry to get started. The most difficult thing is going to be trying to decide what to make first 😋
I’ll be trying a recipe out soon so be on the lookout in my stories for more Cooking Shenanigans coming your way 🥢
I've just ordered myself 4 books (1 star trek, 1 military fiction, 2 true stories). I've been looking at all 4 of these books for ages and I've managed to get them for less than £25.
None of them have arrived yet as 3 of them are from Whsmith yesterday and 1 was ordered from EBay a few minutes ago.
I have bought approximately 7 or 8 books this year including these and I doubt I will buy anymore until my birthday in July so that I have birthday money to use.
I know that there is 1 Clive cussler book (coming out soon), 1 Dale brown book (just been released) and 1 star trek book (not yet released). The 4 books i've just bought are as follows :
1) Star Trek The Next Generation Available Light by Dayton Ward
2) The Moscow Offensive by Dale Brown
3) Indianapolis by Lynn Vincent
4) Fabulous Finn by Dave Wardell
About book 4 , if you have watched Britains Got Talent this year, you will have seen Finn and his owner Dave Wardell on one of the auditions show. Now I don't normally watch any of BGT unless there is something involving dogs on. When I saw Finn was on it, it reminded me that I had been meaning to get this book to read which according to Amazon has 97% of its reviews as 5*. That is the kind of reviews which means something to me.
This particular book will probably be quite hard for me to read as it involves dogs and especially as my wife and I had to say goodbye to our beloved dog in February.
Anyway look for my posts when I start reading these books upon arrival 😁

This book kept me on an emotional rollercoaster... such deep topics and such real self esteem issues... a great love story with a piercing twist! Can’t wait to read book two! @skyewarrenbooks .
Once upon a time there was a beautiful college student... Erin cleans Mr. Morris's house twice a week to pay her tuition. The reclusive ex-soldier intimidates her, but she can't help but feel sympathy for him. Then she walks in on him touching himself, and she has much darker, much more sensual feelings.
And a beastly professor with scars he can't hide... Blake Morris knows he's scarred both inside and out. He's reclusive and surly. Nowhere near good enough for the smart and beautiful young woman who cleans his house.
The most comprehensive divine textbook on all matters relating to spirituality and Divine Love, ‘The Religion of God’ is a must-read for all seekers of enlightenment and the divine path. This book requires unruffled concentration and attention, pondering and research from all religions, sects, and every man. It poses a challenge to those who deny the existence of spirituality.
For one day I want you to part ways with all your worries and tension, to let go of all the guilt that has been slowly but surely killing you from inside. For one day I want you to forget all the failures and hardship that you have faced so far.
For one day I want you to remember only the good times you had, the times you had spent with your family, all the success that you had achieved, the little innocent moments of joy.
I want you to recall the last time when you had closed your eyes, raised your head high, widened your mouth and laughed heartily. I want you to relive all the cherished time you had with your loved ones, recall all the movies you had seen with your dear ones, or the splendid family dinner that you once had.
Today I want you to feel how great your life is, how awesome your friends are. I want you to tell all your loved ones how much they mean to you. I want you to know that you are blessed and gifted. For one day just enjoy yourself, flushing away all the constraints that had once held you back. And for one day I wish that you live a carefree and jubilant life. So that the next day you feel rejuvenated and all set to rise and hitch your wagon to the stars. #bookstagram#bookstagramfeatures#wordporn#wordgasm#poem#instapoet#bookworm#booklover#booknerd#bibliophile#instaread#goodreads#lovetoread#ilovebooks#instabooks#poetrycommunity

Happy Sunday everyone!
Today is going to be spent making some good progress through Circe. I originally got a copy through the library but ended up going home with my very own after Thu’s #bookshugsnharmony book club meeting. (Which I totally crashed cause I didn’t read Bright but definitely will now after the thoughtful discussions).
I’ve wanted a copy of Circe ever since I saw it in person, I just fell in love with how beautiful it was. But the way my bank account is set up... I was really hoping to come across it at HPB or thrift stores. Shoutout to @thuchainz for making my dreams come true 🥰
Hope everyone gets some well deserved R&R before the work week starts! I’m awkwardly anxiously waiting for tomorrow so i can pick up Legendary and Finale from the library!
Did you get any reading in this weekend?
Good morning, everyone. I hope you all enjoy the day. For those new to our page, Gracie is a wild blue jay rescued and released by my family four years ago . He has recently had his seventh brood of babies. So far we have just seen the babies a couple of times. Gracie and his mate are doing a great job keeping the fledglings in the safe area so as not to attract attention from the Predators. To learn more about our life with Gracie, my book Gracie's Wild Adventures is available on Amazon and is a fun read for all to enjoy.
If you know me, you know kindness is my life. I practice it; I talk about it, I teach it (to my tiny human), and I spread it around. It’s not a difficult thing to be—kind.
I think what puts people off is that they think that it costs time and money to be kind—it really doesn’t. Kindness isn’t about being flashy and making grand gestures (although you can if you want to). Kindness is about showing someone you care, that you see them, that you were thinking of them, or that you wish them well.
It can be as small as smiling at someone on the train, complimenting someone on their clothes, or sending a text asking someone how they are. Not only are they all free, but they hardly inconvenience your life. Those little actions can actually make someone’s day. Someone that may have been dreading getting out of bed.
Here’s a little test: go into your phone and send a text asking how they are to a few people you haven’t spoken to for a while. When I did it, it opened up a door of communication. My phone was buzzing for days with glorious chat from old friends. It led to lunches, nights out, and rekindling a few dormant friendships. Go on, give it a try.
I have carried and used these kindness cards for the past three years—they even provide little ideas for you. They have also been passed around so many countries!
Once a year, I send five kindness packages to random friends. It can be anything From a postcard to a book I read and thought they might like.
kindness is they key.
How does it go? Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end, it simply means I'll miss you until we meet again. (author unknown to me)
Next month will be 4 years since Gracie's release back into his world after approximately 4 weeks with us. As difficult as it was, we knew it was best for Gracie and that is what was most important. Since that time we have received not only so much love from Gracie but an education that we could not have received from the best of institutions. It is without a doubt that a great deal of Gracie's tremendous success in the wild is due in part to his timely release. Had we been selfish and waited longer, it is my steadfast belief that Gracie's God given instincts would have been completely destroyed and his survival in the Wild, doubtful. Equally significant is the fact that Gracie was raised inside of our screened-in patio , with all the sights and sounds of the Wild, and not inside our air-conditioned home. * as of May 2019, it is 4 years since We rescued and released Gracie. He has recently had his seventh brood of babies in the wild and we have been by his side every step of the way. My book, Gracie's Wild Adventures is available on Amazon and is a fun read for all to enjoy.

Hi guys. I love the way Gracie, and other birds, lower their wing and pull their leg over it to scratch their heads. I put the video in slow-motion so we can enjoy it. This particular video also gives us a great opportunity to see how the small white part of Gracie's feather (that wasn't previously seen) suddenly appears after Gracie brings his leg back down to perch. I put the red dots near the area, before and after Gracie scratching. Movements like this and other factors such as wind, rain etc can shift and displace feathers, altering what we see and what some refer to as markings, as if they are fixed like a painting of sorts. I share so much more about this topic in my upcoming book. One day I hope I get a chance to share our library of videos, which is literally in the thousands. Many of which are even 30 minutes long. I will always believe that actual hands-on experience is the best teacher we can ever have. *pinch & zoom in *
It took everything we had to help Gracie realize that he was a bird 😃❤ so much love. I hope everyone has had a nice day.

Hi guys. I hope you've all had a great day. Although our page is all about our life with Gracie, I'm often asked about my interest in writing and if it's something new for me. As a fitness professional with an extensive background in strength and conditioning training for Sports and physique, I have written several articles in Fitness magazines in the past, including my own column in a magazine during the 90s called Fitness Plus. As a trainer, I have worked with those from many populations, including the special Olympics and games for the physically challenged; athletes of all kinds, and many with goals related to general health and fitness. This is a short video showing just a bit of my own personal competitive experience in jiu jitsu, bodybuilding and some of the strength and conditioning training needed to get there.
Good morning/ Evening! How is everyone doing?.
We Rule the Night by Claire Eliza Bartlett description from Amazon.
Two girls use forbidden magic to fly and fight--for their country and for themselves--in this riveting debut that's part Shadow and Bone, part Code Name Verity.
Seventeen-year-old Revna is a factory worker, manufacturing war machines for the Union of the North. When she's caught using illegal magic, she fears being branded a traitor and imprisoned. Meanwhile, on the front lines, Linné defied her father, a Union general, and disguised herself as a boy to join the army. They're both offered a reprieve from punishment if they use their magic in a special women's military flight unit and undertake terrifying, deadly missions under cover of darkness. Revna and Linné can hardly stand to be in the same cockpit, but if they can't fly together, and if they can't find a way to fly well, the enemy's superior firepower will destroy them--if they don't destroy each other first.
We Rule the Night is a fiercely compelling story about sacrifice, complicated friendships, and survival against impossible odds..
What I thought of the book!.
I really loved this book. I wasn’t sure if I would because it is different then my normal reads but From the very beginning I was hooked! I loved the writing of this book! I loved the Characters Revna and Linne. I liked that they didn’t get along at first and they both had to work through their problems. Then they had to figure out how to work together. This book definitely shows how strong women are and the obstacles that they overcome..
Thank you @beaconbookbox For putting this amazing book in you box!..

My pairs well with food #APICelebrAsian pick is a well-celebrated backlist title, and from this food pairing, I bet you can guess where this book takes place...🍜🍥🍣
A Tale for the Time Being was a finalist for BOTH the Pulitzer and the Man Booker prize and enjoys a 4 Goodreads rating across 72K+ readers. With such a colorful cover, I quickly noticed A Tale for the Time Being at a used book sale two weeks ago and didn’t hesitate to purchase it. This book has been on my TBR forever, and its inclusion into many bookstagrammers’ TOP API stack (@theshriekingstack@wellreadhuman@alwaysreading@patchesoftheuniverse@baosbooks@_alikelystory ) has renewed my enthusiasm for this book.
To help me along, if you’re read this, leave some words of encouragement! & if you haven’t, but want to read it, let me know if you’d be up for a buddy read. 😉
PS- Thank you to my partner and friends who lovingly roll their eyes at me yet humor me anyway as I halt the meal to take these photos...
Just want to say that I’m one of those people who miss school. 🌝 Not the drama. Not being a teenager. Definitely not the stress. But the learning. .
I miss learning something new everyday. I miss being so immersed in a new world of education that I could stay there for hours. As an adult, I have to actively seek out education. It almost feels like that part is as much work as actually learning about what I’ve discovered. .
So, seeing this book as an option this month, I jumped on it. IT HAS A TIME MAP!! I looove books that have a historical time map like that! These are the type of books I’m gravitating to because I never want to stop learning or become so complacent in the world that I no longer know what’s going on and why. .
So grateful that @bookofthemonth is a company that is dedicated to showcasing books that are taking part in our modern history. #botmbookbassador#gifted

“I need not be full to be significant. I need not be whole to be beautiful.”
She has no idea where she is, or why she is dead. And there are others, and with no memories, they’ve fallen out of their graves to Under, a dark place of dirt and secrets. As Key tries to remember her past, the murders begin. Bodies burnt to a crisp, and this time, the dead stay dead.
If you aren’t taken in by just the quote and synopsis above, then I just don’t know what to say! 😆 I fell in love from the very start, and finished the book rather quickly; I just couldn’t put it down!
Yes, it’s a bit slow, but if you can expect that going in, I think you’ll enjoy it more. It’s slow in the sense that Key awakens with no memory, so she has to come to terms with where she is, explore her surroundings, and be introduced to all the other people in Under. I really appreciate the time the author took to build the different characters; it added to the mystery of trying to figure out who the murderer was. It’s also quite obvious when flashbacks begin and end, and although at first we don’t know who the characters are in the flashbacks, it just adds more to the mystery! I was constantly trying to figure out who was who and it was so exciting!
Smoke and Key had vibes of a macabre, romantic combination of Sherlock and The Corpse Bride. I’m not a lover of romance in my books, and although there is a love-triangle situation, it didn’t affect the story negatively for me, nor was the romance cringy or over-the-top. What a stunning imagination Sutton must have to invent such a wonderfully developed story from the view of the dead. I was fully invested in Key’s story, and yes, tears were shed. Definitely give this delightful and eerie story a try! “We are ghosts, but we are the ones being haunted.” 5/5 #bibliophilicferretreviews .
