It's such a bummer that every inclusive #kickstarter we run always brings out the LGBTQIPA+ folx who realized that they can punch down, and who seem to believe they are the arbiters of which identities are "real" and which ones are "made up." To quote a household favorite, Thor Odinsson, "All words are made up." The community is an ever-evolving conversation about identity and how we relate to each other, and literally all of our terms are made up, evolving over time.
Every #queer person is, alone, struggling in a large dark cishet sea which wants nothing more than to see us drown. And each of us gets to make the decision of which kind of person we want to be: are we the sort of person who, when we discover someone who has been thrown overboard by the USS ALLOCISHET, says, "Come up here, add the board you've been clinging to onto our raft, you must be scared and exhausted, but together we can survive the storms," or are we the kind of person who pushes people back into the water because the board they've been hanging onto for dear life isn't marked with the right pattern?
Because here's the thing: no one who belongs on the USS CISALLOHET wants to be on our raft. It's terrifying and tenuous out here; our lives are valued less and our basic rights and humanity are treated like matters for public debate, rather than immutable truths.
If you're here to help us build a raft big enough for *all* of us, you're welcome to share the craft we're building. If you're here to push other people back into the water, you're not safe for the people on this raft, and we can't have you here endangering the work and health and safety of those actively working to keep the *whole* community safe.
Best of luck building your own raft.
