THE BRUT SERIES
Thought I’d do something a little different and group these 3 together. ‘Brut brewing’ is blasting onto the scene, with every man and his dog creating, and more interestingly, playing with the concept (I’m looking at you, Cloudwater). In essence, the Brut style is a return to the very root of the IPA we see so commonly, bringing dryness and paleness back to the forefront, however they have many characteristics that are far from traditional - higher carbonation being the most obvious. ———————————————————————————
Gipsy Hill - Dynamo - 4.8% ABV
Refreshing and crisp, with dryness to be expected of the style. A nice heavy kick of galaxy and a piney nose.
3.7 out of 5.0🍺
Hammerton Brewery - I am Brut! - 5.4% ABV
Mega refreshing, palette cleansing and exceptionally dry. On the nose it was full of tropical flavours, some of which followed through to the taste. A little lacking in flavour, but this seems to be a feature of the style.
3.4 out of 5.0 🍺
Cloudwater Brew Co x Collective Arts Brewing - Lower Than Zero - 7.0% ABV
Of course Cloudwater couldn’t do things the same as everybody else. This is a Brut IPA soured with their in house Lactobacillus, giving it a very subtle sourness alongside the dryness of the Brut style. Light peach with sour grapes on the nose, and the peach follows through to the flavour. Still maintains a nice hoppyness alongside the light sour flavours.
3.9 out of 5.0🍺
All in all - I like this style, and with people already starting to tweak it I’m excited to see where people go with ‘Brut Brewing’ next. I’ll definitely be checking out some more! ———————————————————————————

NEW GUEST DRAUGHT
GIPSY HILL WIESN, 5.6%, UK
We thought we’d get this added on the eve Munich’s Oktoberfest! Wiesn is an Oktoberfest lager. Gipsy Hill brewed Wiesn back in mid-June to give it enough time to lager properly. It’s slight sweet, nutty, smooth and delicious. Goes well with steins and tented fun. Featuring Freddie, in-house microbe, barrelling and wizardry wunderkid. Hopped with Magnum, Tettnang, Saaz.

Hops Not Hate didn't help me win, but this 4.2% Mango and Orange Zest Sour eased the pain of defeat. This ale by Gipsy Hill Brewery is a collaboration with the Hops Not Hate project and the charity for social inclusion Certitude.
This is a well crafted sour with a good mango punch and a smooth sour body to balance out the sweetness. The orange zest is a little drowned out, but gives a nice tang at the end. A great, easy to drink sour which won't knock your head off.
