Escaping the daily grind!
So this week TNE is escaping the outside world in a tranquil Mallorcan haven. We have 12 people with us, all looking to reset body and mind with a dose of invigorating exercise and deliciously nourishing food. Well, that is the plan anyway! To be honest when TNE first started, running a retreat was never part of the grand vision, but here we are and honestly I’m very grateful. Not just for the week in the sun, but spending time with some fantastic people.
In general retreats seem to be growing in popularity and it is not hard to see why. More people lead cash-rich and time-poor lives than ever before, making it harder to focus on their own well-being. A health and fitness holiday can be a great way to reset the body, learn a new approach and develop good habits to bring home. Across all cultures and age groups there are rising stress levels and a demand for people to be constantly available through technology.
This is one of the reasons behind our choice of location for this week. Staying at Albenya, a traditional Mallorcan finca, looking up towards a hilltop monastery, and situated in an area of incredible natural beauty. Rather than a modern hotel we opted for a lovingly restored farmhouse with vaulted stone ceilings dating back to the 14th Century, surrounded by acres of lemon and olive groves, and not a house in sight for miles around. From the cobbled courtyard filled with tropical plants, to the terracotta patio offering panoramic views over the surrounding countryside it has a truly magical feel to it.
Being in setting that is so far removed from modern life and the fast pace of the urban environment that it makes it so much easier to switch out of work mode and fully embrace a week of relaxation. It offers a great antidote to the stresses of city life, a chance to escape the rat race, slow down, and allow people to put the focus back on themselves and their well-being.
There are so many cafés here that I now have one for every activity/task I need to get done. There’s one that doesn’t have good internet so I go there to just write with pen and paper, one I go to specifically to get freelance stuff done, one that I go to to research, and then there’s this one. I come here to write all my blog posts, including the one I just posted in my bio 😊.
