#FromTheTravelTrunk : The first
Yumthang valley, April 2015
Sikkim was my first tryst with travel as I know love it today. I still very vividly remember - waking up during the cab ride from Bagdogra to Gangtok due to loud gurgling of Teesta flowing just by our side. I remember my first glimpse of the state - small multi-coloured houses climbing the mountains. I remember the constant struggle here onwards between wanting to sleep (because of motion sickness) and not wanting to miss any scenery. 🙈
We covered #Gangtok, #Changu Lake, #silkroute, #Lachung, #Yumthang valley and #westsikkim during the week long trip.
Close to Yumthang valley, a little before Xero Point, we couldn’t proceed any further due to unexpectedly high snowfall. While we were waiting to take a U-turn, it started snowing, within a few minutes the entire landscape transformed and my trip got the climax it deserved. :) .
PS: Waiting to go back for the Rhododendron bloomed Yumthang valley, ethereal frozen lake of #Gurudongmar and peep into China across the #Nathula pass which we missed because of the snow
What a Pleasure it was for me to walk into the Beautiful vegetable market in Gangtok. I feasted my eyes on the entire variety talking to the locals asking them about the vegetable kinds and their recipes...Every region grows different kind of vegetables and the ones I found here were very European.....I landed up buying Lots of mixed pulses andsome Churpi / Surpi Yak cheese......A little wonder how they consume these......
Recommendation by @zomatoin led us to Chopstick, a little bar cum restaurant on MG Road, Gangtok. And it impressed even my hard to please hubby!! Prices were very reasonable, the pork American chopsuey were Rs 190 and enough for one hungry person!! It had ample slices of really well done pork pieces, pineapple and other vegetables. Hubby's chicken thupka was also fantastic, Riju was lamenting later on why he changed his option to chopsuey!! With drinks (nothing fancy just Indian brand vodka and rum), the whole bill was less than Rs 1500. Highly recommend this place if you r in Gangtok.
Second highest Lake in the World. .
Reaching Gurudongmar Lake wasn't easy but the landscape in high altitude makes you feel like a HEAVEN..
