“Fail to plan, plan to fail”
When people ask me what my number 1 piece of advice for surviving nursing school...PLAN! Get a planner and start using it!! I have been using a planner for the past year and it’s been a game changer for me. It keeps me organized and I feel more prepared for the week ahead.
Each Sunday I take the time to sit down, look at each course schedule and write everything down the week. Everything from quizzes, ATI’s due, and readings for each class. Then I write my plan of attack for each day. “What do I need to get done on this day? What is my top priority for this day?” It keeps me organized but also accountable. When I write down my schedule for each day and each week, it’s basically making a contract with myself. Now, everyday isn’t perfect and life happens 🤷🏽♀️ But at least I have an idea on what is going on.
Never give up! Keep pushing towards the mark. Anything worth value in life is not easy. You can accomplish and achieve anything that you set your mind too. Remember Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me”. Happy Sunday Everyone!

Don’t quit your daydream 💭
Two years ago, I would’ve never imagined I would actually be here, on my way to becoming a real rn! I always had the idea in the back of my head, but to be honest I always doubted that I was capable of doing it. 🐔
My mom actually almostttt convinced me to go into radiology before I went to school for my communications degree. 😛 Even though I didn’t listen to her, I’m really happy that I’m returning to one of my original dreams.
Anyone else working on their second career?
Spent the day with my head in my books and I’m ok with that. I study hard now, to do well later so a good life will follow.

It’s been a little over a month now since I started working. Besides being on the floor and I’m also attending classes, learning about policies and procedures..
Next time I’ll be working, I’m actually taking in four patients, it’s a big transition for me.. thankfully I still have my preceptor working with me 🙌🏽

Wondering when to start applying to jobs as a nursing student? I started applying the month of graduation (and I should’ve started earlier- I missed some residency program deadlines). 1. I applied EVERYWHERE. I’m going to be getting a Florida license, so I applied all over Florida, and even North and South Carolina just in case! Thank God Florida is part of the licensure compact states.
2. Start asking clinical instructors and supervisors for letters of rec around the month before graduation. I had to scramble around last minute and it wasn’t fun! I was literally at Universal Studios organizing my documents on my phone in order to get them sent on time.
3. Send out your app, even if you are missing some letters of rec! I did this because I did not have my letters of rec yet, and the hospital contacted me later on with interest and gave me time to provide my supporting documents. So you never know- take that chance! That’s the hospital I ended up accepting a position with 💙 Imagine if I hadn’t applied because I thought I’d automatically be disqualified! Besides, you can always reapply with the correct documents after sending out that first application.
4. Review the values and mission of the hospital you are applying to and include some of the qualities that coincide with your values in your cover letter.
Good luck everyone! And remember not to limit yourself to one hospital/area. Share your tips below!
