Best of Lake Garda 2019:
The best all around meal! The 3 course degustation menu at Il Girasole. Would go back any day. Each course was amazing on its own and all three were great together. Not to mention it was just 30 eur per three course meal per person. Never have I seen a meal so good be so cheap. Highly recommended!
Was in Bombay for a short trip, and this was definitely one of the highlights. The perfect amount of parmesan on top of succulent chicken and spicy pasta is all that anyone asks for, and boy, does this place deliver! A 5/5 and recommended every single day!
@neyowshouston is a little piece of New Orleans in Houston, which where this restaurant originated from 👏🏽 This sea of red beans w/ rice and breaded pork chops is just what I needed for lunch today! So delicious and look at this huge portion 😋

I’m in a super fast cooking/speedy meal phase of life these days. This meal took less than 10 minutes in total to prep and cook.
Steak (rubbed with chilli flakes, salt and pepper)
Fine green beans
Green olives, sliced
Heat a cast iron pan super hot, seat the steak either side a few minutes then remove and leave to rest.
Add the ginger and garlic with plenty of water (covering pan 1/2 cm). It should all sizzle and bubble if pan is hot enough. Throw in the green beans, then a bok choy and cook just until tender. The water will reduce and disappear but don’t let it dry out and burn, add a splash more if needed. Toss the green olives through at last minute and cut up the steak... yum!
For my birthday cake this year, I chose the Coconut Southern Comfort Layer Cake from @bonappetitmag! It was insanely good and I just had to shoot it 📸 🍰

NEW POST on the blog: seafood in the azores! We made a pit stop in Faial island a few weeks ago when crossing the Atlantic. This place is so abundant in seafood, we couldn’t get away from it if we tried! Some food restaurants, some gorgeous views, and much more to read about, link in bio!
Pictured: Limpets! Amazing little things, creamier than mussel and doused in hot garlic butter.
Also, me watching the volcano 🌋

OK so this pic may look like just a bottle of mixed herbs and some OXO cubes but it’s oh so much more and I feel SO PROUD!! 😍 So I’ve been recently house sharing with some very lovely ladies but these lovely ladies do not season their food... some of them not even with salt and pepper!! 😱 They’ve been observing my cooking and seeing the beauty within the art of presentation, taste and eating with their eyes before their taste buds. Very recently they’ve started asking questions about what I’m doing, how I’m doing it and even asking for advice and tips on where they can start when it’s comes to their own cooking. For each of them, I’ve added just one ingredient from my own cupboard to a meal they were already cooking to help them understand how to add depth of flavour to their cooking and then I suggested just 2 main ingredients for each of them, that they would personally use in majority of their foods as a good starting point. This afternoon, I get sent this picture and the smile has not come off my face ever since!! I can’t tell you how happy I am! This, ladies and gentleman, is the start of the journey to fall in love with food and cooking. Food can’t just be about sustenance... there HAS to be enjoyment and love in every plate! 😌 Very exciting times indeed 🥰
Found out about this little cafe near my house through my aunt! It’s a tiny store with a very retro classroom aesthetic (if that makes any sense, haha).
Tried their acai bowl with acai + mixed berry + 🥑 +🍌 + 🥥 water. Overall, I thought it was not bad! I liked their consistency a lot, it’s not too chunky but not too watery.
We’ve got a tasty platter headed out the door for an office lunch! 🏙🥪 Did you know we offer catering options (including free delivery!) with as little as a few hours notice? Give us a call for your next event! 🤳616-396-3100 #myelectrichero
Of mice & proper sweaty men: my week on an organic farm in #Ecuador 👨🏼🌾
To say I was looking forward to a week on a palm oil farm in La Concordia would be a complete lie; I do not like the outdoors, I do not like animals. Farming then, would not feature too highly on my list of things to do. In spite of my own lack of open-mindedness, the experience has been one of the most valuable I have had whilst away.
This is in no small part down to the fortune we had of being taken in by our hosts Nadia & Daniel and their six-month old little nipper Aiden. I relinquished my anxieties of grubbiness & grossness from the moment I walked through the front door of their modern cabin, a good 15 minute drive off main roads and into the jungle - isolated from the outside world by immense greenery, trees and leaves.
We were welcomed, chatted to, given a structured routine with varied jobs & I got to do a whole lot of cooking, too. I’m sure people leave volunteer schemes thinking ill of their hosts for many reasons: they were worked too hard/too little, were bored in their downtime, felt the host could have been more accommodating. Not us. So many of boxes were ticked and then some. We’ve both had a genuinely really nice time of it, saved about £250 and learned loads about the hardships within #agriculture , food & Ecuador more generally.
Over the next few days, I’ll be sharing some of the photos of wonderful organic produce that they’re growing, some you’ll be aware of and hopefully some not.

Aw shucks. You’re my Maine squeeze.
It’s not summer until I eat at @newenglandlobster. But let’s face it, I eat there year round 😉 and I always need to order their lobster and oysters. Pro-tip: always order the oysters first since they need time to shuck them; this way, your oysters can come out before your mains.
Kumamoto oysters are my favorite. The line of oyster originated from Kumamoto prefecture in Kyushu, Japan. They’ve been farmed on the west coast since the 1940s. The taste of a Kumamoto is very distinct: the meat is juicy and buttery with a fruity crispness, not too much brininess to it. They’re sometimes referred to as “the Chardonnay of oysters” due to their crisp flavor. Surprisingly, even though they originated from Japan, Kumamoto oysters are pretty much unknown in there. Kumamoto have become synonymous with the west coast, and California and Washington being the two largest cultivators of it. Do you have a favorite oyster?
