Energy is contagious.
It’s a big factor in why I decided to become a spin instructor. I love sharing the energy, the sweat, the heavy climbs, the excitement, the post-spin smiles and endorphin highs.
I love that each class, we start together. 5:30p. A little quiet, thoughts still lingering from the stress of the work week and life happenings.
But when the door closes, the lights turn off, music turns on — it becomes easier to be present in the moment, to forget what is going on outside the doors of The Garden as we settle in for 45 minutes.
Sweat pouring, lungs heaving, muscles burning and not one person stopped pedalling, tossed in their towel, and said I’m done. When we add tension or RPMs, we all do together. When I hoot, they holler. When the room goes silent in between tracks and all you hear is heaving breathing — it’s the sound of everyone giving it their all, regardless of what that looks like. And it’s in these moments that I am reminded of the power of energy.
Energy is why I continue to teach, to consciously choose to show up to each and every class excited, smiling, and celebrating being able to be there — because I know, the energy we ourselves show up with, the energy we put out into the world around us, that we exude when conversing with others, that is very often the energy we receive back.
Energy is contagious, it’s infectious.
So if you find yourself feeling merp, mopey, blah, stuck in a rut, surrounded by Negative Nancy’s and Complaining Carrie’s — I challenge you to check in with your own energy, because you DO attract the energy that you put out.
Not because you manifest it. Not because of karma. Not because you’re a good or bad person. But because you CREATE it.
