We’ve had oysters many times in Ireland, but Carolyn said she hadn’t had enough, so we ordered some tasty ones for lunch today. Strangely, at least to me, not one of the oysters we’ve had In Ireland had the adductor muscle cut, leaving diners to “snip” It themselves with their tiny forks. Don’t get it. #oysters#oyster#ireland#seafood#fishyfish
Did you know that Lionfish are an invasive species in the Caribbean?! 🐟😮 At Kakona, we strive to protect and conserve our environment! To control the population of Lionfish, the Saba Marine Park makes sure these pests aren't overpopulating our reefs!
You can find jewelry made with Lionfish fins, which come in a variety of pretty patterns. We have bracelets, necklaces, earrings, cuff-links, and bottle openers! See more at Kakona! #removelionfish#protectthecaribbean
I would say this falls under presentation could use some work. Grated beet and onion salad (begging for goat cheese, worked better as a sandwich garnish all week than as side) with lemon mustard glazed pan seared salmon. #fishyfish#beetsalad#hotdayscoolmealw#summermeal
[Day 99] After a quick breakfast in the van outside Dan and Jeanne’s house I headed to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to catch the morning feeding of the penguins, otters, deep ocean… Got smart about parking and parked in a free lot on the edge of town and biked in to the aquarium, feeling very smug since the parking right by the aquarium is stupid expensive.
I basically walked from exhibit to exhibit watching the animals get fed and listening to the talks. Was very interesting. Monterey Bay Aquarium was a fun experience and it was cool to see all the beautiful fish. Wasn’t the most amazing aquarium experience I’ve had though. In fact, considering how much it’s been talked up, I was a little underwhelmed. It was crazy crowded by a million kids and adults. Loud and busy. Tanks felt small. I’m by no means an expert and I’m sure the fish are doing just fine, just speaking from a visitor experience. I never really felt like I was immersed in the beautiful deep sea or was swimming amongst the leopard sharks as I’ve felt before in other aquariums. But maybe it was largely due to the crazy amount of people in there. I’m still very happy I went of course, it was still a cool experience. Especially the jelly fish and the deep sea. Oh and I love how much they talked about the importance of sustainable seafood and their Seafood Watch app. Good stuff - go download it!
Quick stop by Dan and Jeanne’s to return the card before driving up the coast to Santa Cruz. Did laundry and mostly just relaxed. I found a great parking spot a couple blocks off the beach, perfectly suited to the van. Walked around the neighborhood and explored. Santa Cruz is rad! Felt great to roll down the window to the heavy marine layer laying its evening mist over the city.
I’ll be back in Montana next week around the 4th. I’ve never felt more burnt out and ready to fish then I do now. Not sure how long I’ll be there or when, it depends on how things go. #fishyfish#travel
