Clear sky and sun at Milford Sound 🤔 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••Scientists state that this region's breathtaking landscape was carved from retreating glaciers when the last ice age ended.
This is my second time here and it looks a lot different in the sun, I think I prefer it when it’s sunny 😎
Day 71 - Doubtful Sound, New Zealand
The Maori name for Doubtful Sound is “Patei” which means “Place of Silence.” To get to the Sound for our kayaking trip, we had to take a ferry across Lake Manapouri and then a bus over the Wilmot Pass - it really felt cut off - but the journey was definitely worth it for the stunning views... the NZ weather finally cleared up a bit for us!
We spent hours exploring the fiord in our kayaks and learning about the surrounding waterfalls, mountains and rainforests.
The silence of the sound may have been shattered a couple of times by @futerjay and I debating how best to steer/paddle 😜
Moje dziewczyny projektują ! 😁 Czysta pasja ! 😁 / My Girls Pure Passion -/// like use to say my friend Mike Libecki 👍"Why ration passion? Dream big…..and climb those dreams. After all, it is not only life, but the quality of this life." #Outdoor#climbers#climbing_lovers#mountains#fiord.center
I love adventures where there is no set track. where a route of most interest or supposed least resistance may dreamed up from contours on a map, or reports from people who may have traversed the area before. But the reality is a mystery, how those lines on the map relate the what's there at the time and how we find a path through that. It feels like creativity, an in depth interaction of listening to the place and responding to it. In the fiords this translated to many unexpected circumstances; impassable barriers of flooded rivers or raging steep creeks where I never would have dreamed them possible, near vertical walls of soft mud and vegetation in various states if life and decay, deep bogs or thickets of dense scrub. But also winding paths through these, cathedrals of moss and leafy boughs, flowing rivers or open vistas of towering mountains, micro gardens and ferns. the world just living on oblivious to humans
