Another determination of eligibility for this special pension benefit is income and liquid assets. Most people believe that if a single Veteran has assets in his/her name below 50,000 or for married couples have assets below 80,000 they may qualify
However, the reality is that the adjudicator, the person who approves the claim at the VA should apply in aged based analysis that takes into consideration the age of the veteran and or surviving spouse, the amount of monthly income, and the cost of non-reimbursed medical expenses to determine the maximum amount of assets they can have in their name and still qualify
Hence, those income limits may not apply to each person the same. It may be possible to have more and still qualify
So what should the Veteran do of their assets exceed the maximum amount determined by the age of base analysis 🤔
One option is to take advantage of the fact that the VA currently has no five-year look back rule -
Put another way, if a #Veteran or surviving spouse of a Veteran has assets that exceed the age-based analysis amount, they could consider transferring assets to a PROPERLY DRAFTED irrevocable trust
By doing, so assuming the rest of the planning has been done properly, they may be eligible for VA Aid and Attendance beginning the first day of the following month

What does privilege mean? Today it means growing up with 2 university educated parents, ideally married to each other. It means growing up in an affluent neighbourhood with after school activities. It means not having to pay for your education either because it's subsidized (hello Canada!) or because your parents paid for it. It means not having to dig yourself into grave of student debt, to start your adult life with a clean slate. 🌀
All of the above apply to me. Although I am a woman of colour, I realize that I had a pretty Little House on the Prairie upbringing. To me 'privileged' is anyone who has it considerably better than others in a way that will allow them to succeed in the future. And this privilege has enabled me to get to where I am.
When I read last week's viral article entitled,"Most Money Advice Is Worthless When You’re Poor - Savings tips are classist garbage and belong in the trash" by @itsa_talia in @Vice, it made me feel utterly inadequate as a financial professional.
When I started my business, I decided one of my core values would accessibility to every woman, no matter what her financial situation, a lofty goal, I'm realising increasingly. I want to meet you where you are, whether you just inherited $8M or you are $40K in debt and have no investments to speak of. 🌀
But as I put together my last post about how investing can afford a life of travel and leisure, I vague unease came over me. I knew that this advice was not for everyone. It certainly wasn't for the single mom working 2 jobs and 60-hours a week to ends meet. 🌀
The path I've chose is to empower (some) women financially so that they in turn can help others. Teach them to fish theory. Because it has been shown that when women have economic power, we help our families, our communities, we start foundations, charities that give back. I cannot help everyone - it pains me to say that - but I hope that I can empower others to help those who I can't.

“We have an insurmountable amount of debt. I’m not even exactly sure how much it is anymore.”
#moneytip of the day is to strategically tackle your debts. Sometimes debt can get overwhelming and you might feel stuck, but with a bit of help and right action you can be in control of your debts. Here’s a quick guide to repaying you credit cards:
1. Write down all the debt you have, the balance, and the interest rates on each one
2. Pay the minimum on all of them, except for the one with the highest interest rates and pay it off first
3. Put in as much as you reasonably can towards your debts. You want to put an amount that’s a stretch but not too much that you backslide later
4. Repeat this until all debts have been repaid
It may sound very simple, and there isn’t a shortcut. What’s important is taking the first step of breaking your old patterns. This is why you have to make psychological cues to help make the changes easier for you. Here are a few tips for helping repay your credit cards:
✓ Leave your credit cards at home or cut them up. You can’t use them if you don’t have them with you
✓ Use cash when you start this process. You want to build awareness of your spending habits
✓ Get creatives in ways to spend less or earn more. If you’re determined to get rid of your debts, you’ll find ways to take control of your situation
✓ Avoid balance transfer promotions as it’s easy to fall into building more debts or making a mistake
✓ If you’re having a hard time with cash flow, take small action steps. Start by paying a bit more than minimum, then work your way up to higher repayment amounts
Hope you guys found that helpful and always feel free to reach out if you need any assistance in helping to change your financial situation.
I love what I do! Simply, LOVE.
Love witnessing a client’s joy today at seeing how her optimized deductions drop her bill from approximately $40k to $9k... and another’s from $105k to $45k. (Wondering how that’s even possible? It’s ALL about developing financial tax literacy, setting up things to protect + support you, and creating documentation systems).
More than anything I LOVE watching others gain financial clarity and alignment through our work together... which translates to piece of mind.
And that piece of mind gives you the confidence to move forward & grow.

👀. Yea that one might sting a little bit because I know how people feel about their cars, but it’s true. 🤷🏽♀️
You need to consider the total cost of the vehicle not just the monthly payments and how smooth the ride is. Your budget should include the maintenance, taxes, gas, insurance, etc. ✨
My recommendation is to wait until you are ready to accept the expensive maintenance cost for a luxury vehicle. Don’t buy it and then complain about how expensive it cost to keep it. You knew that going in so have that already factored into the budget. #cars#stayready#budget#totalcost
