I'm going to open a $1 store and to start sell my one dollar bills for $0.90 to get customers. Then, when everyone is hooked, I'll up my price to $1.10 and make loads of money.

|Have a Destination In Mind|
If I told the head of my massive investment banking group that he has 30 days left to live, he would literally spend his last 30 days closing as many investment banking deals as he possibly could. That’s how much he adores his job, and how passionate he is about the work he is doing. It’s no surprise that he is one of the youngest to ever be Chairman of my group; you love what you excel at, and you excel at what you love.
But he is a rare exception in the corporate world. Most people only wake up excited on Saturday and Sunday (and bankers often don’t even get those days off). These are the folks that tell me in the office “Faizan, I’ve been at this job for 30 years, and I just can’t believe it’s been that long. Where has the time gone?”
It is these people who lack a SENSE OF DIRECTION in terms of what they want their lives to look like one day. Do you want to live a lavish lifestyle? Do you want to help your parents retire? Do you want to be free to travel 6 months per year? Do you want to one day go into politics?
You should ONLY pursue a career if that career is 1) your ultimate goal or 2) a stepping stone to help you progress towards your goal. Have a sense of DIRECTION in terms of what you want to do with your life. Too many people are trapped in careers indefinitely because they only wanted the career for social status, security, or other aspects that don’t lead to long-term fulfillment.
