We spent this morning in #merthyrtydfil town centre helping to get more signatures for the Miners Pension petition. 100,000 signatures are needed for the UK Government to review the 'Mineworkers Pension' to reduce from the 50/50 sharing of the surpluses that the Government are taking from the system. It has been a number of years since the mineworkers and widows have had an increase in their pension (other than the cost of living increase). The Mineworkers were the backbone of this country for a number of decades and deserve a fair increase of THEIR pension! Thank you to all who stopped & signed today ❤️ #miners#minerspension#minerspensionscandal#pension#petition#fightforwhatsright#coalminersdaughter#merthyr#valleys#wales#madeinmerthyr
Yes, it's an optional job. Living is also optional, where's the logic in that argument? If you sign a contract to be making a certain percentage of any fare you accept, then that is what you are expecting to make which is a similar, if not an identical concept that can be applied to any job. Imagine if you were making $30 per hour and then one day it goes down to $20 per hour. Would you then apply it's the "optional job" argument?
My vehicle expenses alone are an approximate $800 monthly, not counting another $400/500 on gas and maintenance. In addition to the financial obligations are high taxes and lack of benefits. Should I be okay with having the terms I agreed to work on, to be disregarded? No. I do this job anywhere between 40-80 hours a week and depend on the flexibility and the guaranteed percent of what I'm making per ride, equally to how those who are intoxicated in the late hours or trying to get to work in the morning on time, depend on me.
It's not taken into consideration how we are at a higher risk to be in an accident, robbed, and assaulted at any given time and it happened to me more than once and happens consistently to many other drivers out there.
While it may not be considered a "real job," in the classic corporate world, it is for the single parents who can't do 9-5, to the students who can't afford schooling and still need to work full-time, to the retired who can't survive on their Social Security alone, those in debt whether from unaffordable healthcare or education, to those who want to achieve their goals and dreams big, and most importantly to tens of thousands of drivers out there. We're not asking to come out and protest with us but what we are asking is not assume but question why we are out here protesting for our rights. Thank you, to those who were and are supportive and I look forward to continue spreading awareness not just through conversation but through actions.
Talk about some Monday blues. Hopefully we saw the last of Florence this morning, but be careful out there today. We’re open regular hours, so come see us if you can get here safely & check out the new goodies from @joynbags.#monday#blues#goawayflorence#besafe#durham
Stupid hot or not sites. What a way to destroy kids. This is my beautiful 13 year old daughter who is finding her style and just like the rest of us wants people to like it. What does she do . She post her pic to find out what people thing and the people on one of the sites said 2/10 . Had a long talk about finding yourselves. And the internet is not the place to do it. I'm just glad she can have open conversation with me still. #mydaughter#momlife#beautiful#newhair#style#womenempowerment#fightforwhatsright
