Back to school! We created an about me bingo board on google docs. I printed them when they were done and posted them around the classroom. We did a gallery walk and initialed our names when we found something in common with our peers. On Friday played Kahoot to see what they know about their peers! #fifthgradeteacher#bilingualteacher#backtoschool#kahoot#googleclassroom
Current beach read... have you read it? It’s going to be a movie staring Kerry Washington. I love reading books before seeing movies, so I figured I’d give it a try. I was a little nervous to read this one because I feel like it hits a little close to home. It’s about a new mom who joins a mommy group to meet other moms who had babies around the same time (just like my life)... however, one night they decide to go out for drinks and leave the babies at home, and one of the babies goes missing while they’re out 😱 There are some twists, even early on, so it’s been keeping me on my toes and I’m enjoying it so far. It reminds me of Liane Moriarty books... so if you’re a fan of those, you might want to check this out! THIS. 🙌🏼✨ I woke up this morning feeling really grateful. Today is my last Saturday before I officially head back to work on Wednesday. My initial thoughts were filled with stress & anxiety, but then I took a deep breath & reminded myself how lucky I am to have a job that I am so passionate about & that brings me so much joy & fulfillment. Even on the hardest of days, I have to remember that. No matter how frustrated I may get, there are always little things to be happy about. This illustration makes me smile. It reminded me that no matter the situation, you can always find something positive in every day. It may be silly, even if that thing is as little as sunshine. Think about how happy sunshine makes you. On a sunny day, even if your day sucks & even if something really crappy happens at school, it’s still sunny. Over the past couple of years, I’ve found that positivity is contagious. Your students feed off of it. You can choose to see the positive in anything. It all depends on how you look at a situation. I’m taking this quote & making it my mantra for this school year: “Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day.” Bring it on, year three. 💪🏼😌 // 📷: @positivelypresent#behappy#positivevibes#positivelypresent#madeinfifthgrade
Trying out a new #classroommanagement strategy! We shall see how it works! 😅😅 I have two sections of 5th grade ELA #readersworkshop so each color is for each cohort. The kids get to color in a letter for positive specials reports, for random acts of kindness or for amazing class behavior during lessons or workshop time. They can color in a letter on whichever privilege they want and when they fill one up the class gets to cash it in! ✅🎉🙏🏼 praying it works!! Trying to think of creative ways to add positive reinforcement in multiple ways. As teachers we are always trying and experimenting with new techniques, aren’t we!!! What works for you??? #teacherafollowteacher#teacheraofig#fifthgradeteacher#upperelementaryteacher

Spent my last Friday of summer at the beach 🏖It could not have been a better way to end summer. But man, I am SO excited for school on Monday!
My math manipulatives were stored in a large closet in an even larger heap of zip-lock bags. Yesterday, I spent more time (and money) than I care to admit getting them organized to a point where my anxiety isn't through the roof just looking at them. Next up, making labels 😩
I love flexible seating in the classroom. I assign a “home base” for each child as they come into the classroom which makes transition easier since we departmentalize. Then for our mini lesson we have carpet time and then transition to independent writing time where students choose what works best for them. I’m on a tight budget so look for innovative ways to do flexible seating with what the school has provided and things I find at the thrift store. I’ve lowered trapezoid tables and round tables provided by the school for floor seating, raised tables on bed risers with student desks as their seats to provide standing tables, and found massive pillows at the thrift store for students to sit or lounge on. One of the favorite spots is the window seat that has an ikea rolling chair handed down from a sweet friend. It’s amazing how focused and immersed the students are in their work when choice is involved. #flexibleseating#flexibleseatingoptions#teachersofinstagram#teachersfollowteachers#classroomdecor#classroom#fifthgradeteacher

Did one of my favorite lessons today! The Toothpaste Challenge!
It’s a great activity that gets them thinking about being kind and the impact hurtful words or actions can make. Meaningful lesson, but also FUN!😁👍🏼 #fifthgradeteacher
One of my lovely students has brought me a flower from her garden each morning! #fifthgradeteacher
This is so true! Find what you’re good at or passionate about and make it come out in your lessons... if you love music, incorporate it into your lessons.. if you love games, turn some lessons into games, if you love reading aloud in funny voices, do it! If you’re not having fun and engaged, your students CERTAINLY will not be either. We are their role models and we have to show them how exciting learning can be.. for EVERYONE! 🤗 #makelearningfun#studentengagement#findyourpassion
So you’re telling me you don’t keep a blanket in your cupboards, and nap in your library? It’s marathon meeting day, and I needed to watch Moana and lay down on lunch 😂
I love this freebie from @sweetforkindergarten! I put it in a cheap IKEA frame which means I can use a dry erase marker or post it notes. This should help me stay extra organized on a weekly basis. Side note...my perfectionist side hates that there is a wrinkle in the yellow paper and it’s taking everything in me not to fix it. Too many other things to prep so it’s not a priority!
So here's my #TargetHaul picture!!😍 This is after hitting up 4 Targets in 1 day!🙊🙃 I have to say I did pretty good.👍🏽 They were all close by eachother so I didn't drive a ton haha. I'm sooooo happy with everything I got.😩❤️ I only have like 3 maybe items that I'll decide on later. In comparison to last year I have to say I did well on resisting the super unnecessary purchases!👏🏽 I literally squealed when I scored all 3 pillows in one store!😁 I did score a few more items which I'll post later that @ms.garcia_ hunted down for me while I was at jury duty ahaha🙈
Two truths & a lie: I was as happy as a kid in a candy store when I found this mini “5” balloon in the Target Dollar Spot, I have so much back-to-school energy & excitement that I already did little things like writing the date of the 1st day of school on the board (which is not for almost 3 weeks), & today is September 4th, 2018. I think it’s pretty obvious which one is the lie 🧐😂 Here’s another sneak peek at one of my favorite little parts of my room 👀 I can’t wait to show y’all the entire room very soon! Stay tuned 😄🤩✨ #backtoschool#classroomsetup#madeinfifthgrade .
